This stew is so delicious (especially served with Quick Yeast Rolls found on Allrecipes)and I often make it. The simple seasonings make it so you can add or delete any ingredients you want to. For instance, I leave out the celery and potatoes and only put in mushrooms and carrots. I also cut my meat into tiny pieces and it is melt in your mouth delicious!

This was the second time that I made this recipe. I left out the rosemary (husband doesn't like rosemary) and added a little red wine, other than that, I followed the recipe. It turned out great!

This stew was fantastic. I did what others suggested and put 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 t.pepper, 1 t.onion powder and 1 t.garlic powder in a bag with the beef before browning. I also added 1 tablespoon A-1 and 1 T. Worcestershire sauce to the sauce. I doubled the cornstarch mixture for a thicker sauce. This really needed the full 2 hours to cook. My whole picky family of 6 loves this. I have tried many stew recipes without success. This recipe really is that good.

Although this was very flavorful, it didn't have the exact flavor I was hoping for. I followed other's advice and coated the beef in the flour/pepper/garlic- the meat turned out wonderful! I also added the tbsps of ketchup, worcestershire, and I didn't have A-1 so I used Dale's low sodium steak seasoning. I do think those things helped the flavor. I also tripled the cornstarch to make it thicker! The thing I didn't like most about this stew was probably the rosemary. I love rosemary, but it's just not the flavor I was looking for in my stew. Also if I make this again I will decrease the pepper a bit. Even with the bouillon it turned out a bit bland, which is confusing to me b/c there is so much sodium in it! Oh well. All in all a good stew, but lacking something. I'm still looking for my perfect stew recipe...

I love this stew! I tried several recipes trying to find one that resembled a stew I remember from when I was a kid, and this one was *exactly* what I was looking for! Very easy to make, and the flavors are wonderful. The only change I made was I used flour instead of cornstarch to thicken the stew because I like that consistency better, but I don't think it changed the flavor any.

Great base recipe! I did follow recommendations to dredge meat in flour and spice mixture before cooking. I also used a can of 50% less sodium beef broth and supplemented with sodium free beef bullion and water. My husband and I like things spicy, so I did my own thing with the herbs and spices of this recipe. Mostly, I added black pepper, crushed red pepper, cayenne pepper and cumin. I halved this recipe and served with my favorite biscuits - J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits - from this site. It made a great dinner! Will definitely make again.

Not for us. Followed the recipe as written and found it bland. There wasn't enough depth of flavor. I also think the potatoes need to be added later. It takes longer to cook carrots than potatoes so they shouldn't be added at the same time. It also never really thickened up. I suppose I could add more cornstarch but as written, this wasn't our favorite.

Best soup/stew I have EVER made. I was delighted, my husbnad was delighted. It was terrific. I added a half cup of wine instead of water, but added an extra cup of water at the end because I didn't follow instructions right and put everything into the pot at once... oops. Everything was great though. I want to be able to come up with recipes like this!

As it makes no sense to rate a recipe based on changing all the ingredients, I made this as per the recipe. Personal preference for me would have been a thicker stew. The bouillon cubes made it way too salty for my tastes, I wouldn't use those again. I did like the celery and I love rosemary.

I loved this recipe. I am not big on beef stew because it is usually so bland. I took advice from some other reviews and put the meat in with flour, onion and garlic powders and pepper, then cooked it in a skillet. In hindsight, I shouldn't have added more pepper in the stew also. It was delicious!
