This was the first time I've ever made stew and it was THE BEST! I didn't have dried rosemary on hand but I added one pouch of campbells cream of mushroom soup mix just for a bit more flavour, and some green onions...my friends loved it too!!! This will always be my stew recipe from now on... it's so quick and easy, I was shocked....

I made this for my husband, and he said it's his favorite of anything I've made him. I halved the recipe but followed the same cooking times, and it came out great. I added 1 T of Worcestershire, A-1 steak sauce, and ketchup (which a commenter suggested), but other than that, I followed the recipe exactly. I'm a vegetarian, so I didn't taste it, so it's very helpful that the recipe works without adjustments.

The rosemary is a bad flavor for this stew. I think it would have been good if not for that. It's just a weird flavor and an even weirder smell. Not good.

I give this 4 stars as written. It's an excellent starter for beef stew but it needs a little more flavor. I read through the reviews and used some of the suggestions and it became a 5 star recipe. I added some ketchup, though next time I might just use tomato paste. I also added some worcestershire sauce and some garlic powder. Also, if you want to stretch this recipe... just add more water and boullion or broth and then add more vegetables. Use my tip below to thicken and you can feed an army from 1 or 2 lbs of beef. I also used flour instead of corn starch because it is what I'm used too and I think it just adds more flavor where cornstarch adds nothing but a thickening agent. Tip to those that have problems making gravy or thickening sauces with flour..... Add flour to cold water in a small container, (my dad taught me to use a baby food jar and that's what I still use today :) Then shake, shake, shake. Then you can pour the flour mixture into whatever it is you are trying to thicken. What I like about this method is that you don't really have to measure the flour and water. Just throw a couple of TBLS of flour in the container. Add enough water to shake it up and make a very thin paste. Then you can add a little bit at a time to your recipe until it gets thick enough to your liking. Then just throw the rest away. Perfect gravy, no lumps, EVERYTIME! Anyway... I know people hate it when you rate a recipe but make lots of changes to it. Just so everyone knows. I made

This was quite tasty! I, too, browned the beef coated in flour and garlic powder, added a dash of Worcestershire sauce, omitted the corn starch, added a potato and some mushrooms, and then used the slow cooker, high for 4 hours. It was delicious with tender meat, and we dipped home-baked bread into the sauce. Fantastic recipe.

I made this with a few small changes suggested by others: I tossed the beef cubes with a little flour and garlic and onion powder, and I added herbes de provence and some salt for seasoning. The result was fantastic -- terrific flavor and the meat was very tender, even after only 90 minutes of cooking. I'll be making this again!

Very nice easy stew. Only change I made, and I don't know why, is I threw a few spoonfuls of spicy salsa in there. Added a little spice to the stew I think.

My kids (daughter) thought it sounded bad, I told her to try it when it was done. I did follow other reviews by adding the red wine. It's the best stew I (we) have ever had my family ask for me to make it all the time now!

This stew is so delicious (especially served with Quick Yeast Rolls found on Allrecipes)and I often make it. The simple seasonings make it so you can add or delete any ingredients you want to. For instance, I leave out the celery and potatoes and only put in mushrooms and carrots. I also cut my meat into tiny pieces and it is melt in your mouth delicious!
