This is a very good base recipe but I found it to be too bland so these are the changes I made: Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Mince a medium sized onion and saute it for a few minutes before adding to the tomatoes and broth mixture. Double the amount of basil.

this was so easy to make and tasted like this gourmet soup i usually pick up from the store. I didn't have fresh basil so i used dried and added more sugar to taste to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes. Highly recommended

I have made this recipe several times, and it has been a hit every time. I do decrease the butter by about half, but that is my only change! Due to health issues, my Father-In-Law has been a VERY finicky eater. Some meals he refuses everything, including foods he ate the day before!! But, the three times I made this soup he not only ate the whole bowl, but demanded seconds EVERY TIME. (unheard of from him!) Super Easy, Super Yummy!

Wow, this one is good! I have made the Nordy's Cafe one for a few years, but this one tastes just about as good and is half the work! I reduced the butter by half and substituted half n half for the cream.

I had to use Italian-style tomatoes, but it still turned out great. Served it with grilled cheese and ham. Awesome meal, so filling and quick to make.

This soup is wonderful! My husband and I loved it! It's better than any tomato basil soup we have tried at bistros. I have also made it with beef broth (homeade from boiled beef soup bones) and it was extra rich and flavorful. It was great served with grilled cheese on sourdough. Will definitely make this again.

So yummy and simple. I love tomato soup and this really hit the spot. I tweeked the original recipe a little. I reduced the butter by 3T, added 2t of sugar, and 4 pinches of salt (Sorry, I didn't measure this I was just adding to taste). I really love this recipe.

This is so good! I used half and half instead of cream and 3 T of butter after reading the other reviews, still delicious. Great recipe and so easy.

This was very delicious! I made it with diced tomatoes and milk, rather than cream, since that is what I had on hand. I also increased the sugar and reduced the butter. I can imagine it would be sinfully delicious with the heavy cream. Thanks for a great EASY recipe!

I was completely stunned at how stupid easy and stupid good this turned out to be. I figured only 1 tsp. of sugar wouldn't be enough to cut the acidity of the tomato, so i put a total of 3 tsp. in for good measure, and it turned out perfect!! I ate this with a plain ol' grilled cheese sandwich and it was ridiculously tasty. I tried this with the dried basil since my store was out of fresh, and it was STILL awesome!

Very tasty. thanks for the recipe. I used canned italian plum tomatoes & blended first. also used 1/2 the butter, which was plenty & used ff 1/2 & 1/2 to cut calories. tasted great & probably even better tomorrow for lunch.

Pretty good, but just doesn't quite hit the mark. It might be that the canned tomatoes give it a bite that fresh ones wouldn't... I am still in search of that perfect recipe for this soup that will match the one at the restaraunt I go to all the time.

Love this recipe - and it makes enough for a week of lunches after a good dinner with crusty bread! I did saute some onions and garlic before adding the tomatoes and broth, but I add onion and garlic to almost everything. Followed another recommendation and got the crushed tomatoes with basil and added some dried basil instead of fresh (I killed my basil plant in a recent move). I also used light cream to cut a little bit of fat, but I don't think it compromised the taste.
