I followed the recipe pretty closely, except I used homemade chicken stock instead of water. I liked it ok, it was a little bland, though. I'll keep looking.

This was FANTASTIC!! my whole family loved it!!! I used half great northern beans and half lima beans just because that is what I had in my pantry. I added half tsp of dried tyme just because tyme always makes soup taste better and I mashed about a cup of the beans half way through to make the soup creamier and thicker. It worked out great. I recommend making this with cornbread and try doing what I learned from my grandparents. They add a little vinegar and chopped raw onions to their bowl of soup right before they eat it. I tried it with this and it was very tasty. :)

Really good! I left out the carrots and celery because my husband doesn't like them.

I made it in the crockpot and i must have a small crockpot because after adding all the other ingredients i didn't have enough room for the total liquid so mine came out more stew like. It was alright. We didn't care for it too much, but then again we aren't stew/soup people. Good basic recipe though

I will admit right now, I cheated and used beans from a jar. Still turned out great! I think the mustard is the kicker. Thank you for sharing.

I made this tonight for my children. We don't eat pork so I subbed a can of new potatoes for the ham. I used 4 cups chicken broth and 2 cups water, the texture came out wonderful, I soaked them for a few hours and let them cook down for about 3 1/2 hours. I left out the salt because I thought it would have been too salty with the chicken broth, but I was wrong they were under-seasoned, I guess because I had no meat. But I used this as a base recipe for white beans. I served over rice with cornbread

This is a favourite in our house! The last time I made this I also added some broccoli that needed to be used and I didn't have enough beans, so added some pearl barley when there was about half an hour's cooking time to go to make up for the lack of beans. I will also be able to make this using my slow cooker some time!

simple yet delicious. this is one of those recipes where the leftovers taste even better. i used chicken broth instead of water (although i had to add some water about halfway through because it got very thick), didn't use the ham hock, and left out the salt. i'll be making this often, i'm sure.

I don't know why, but this recipe didn't appeal to me. Maybe it needed more spices.

As written, this is only 3 stars because the flavor was flat. I added a tablespoon of chicken base and that did the trick, oh and I also added black pepper. With those changes, we thought this earned 5 stars.

Pretty good. I added red chili pepper. I may have added a little to much, it was pretty spicy. Beans were good and next time I will use a ham bone instead of just chopped ham.

The broth and flavor of this soup was really good. I used the nine bean soup mix bag (cause it was on hand) and wish I would have stuck to just the northern beans. There is a bean in the bag mix that stays crunchy and it's just weird.

This was ok, not sure if I'll make it again, but if I do I will blend half of the beans and water in order to get a creamier texture rather than having it so watery.
