I absolutely love this recipe. It is tasty all on its own, then, when you consider the healthiness of barley, it's 5 stars all the way! Plus, I needed a new starchy side dish. I made it once with quick cooking barley, which was a mistake. Use the medium pearl regular barley as the recipe states.

This was delicious. I added some chicken and a bag of frozen corn so it made more of a whole meal. Very tasty and leftovers were great too.

I made this today and wow! This is really good and good for you too. My one year old grandson loves it and so does the rest of the family. This is a keeper. Followed the recipe to the letter and did not find that it lacked in flavor. Great as is, but may experiment by adding different veggies next time. Thanks for a great recipes. Will pass this one on to my friends and family members.

I used carrots and broccoli because I didn't have any celery on hand, and it was a huge hit. My husband isn't usually crazy about barley, but he loved this dish.

I loved this recipe. I'm always looking for whole grain dishes, and this is a wonderful way to cook barley. During the last 30 minutes of cooking we put our flounder filets on top of the dish, and it made a great main course.

I followed this recipe exactly and it was not good at all. My husband and I couldn't eat more than a couple bites of it. I would not cook this again

I waivered between 4 and 5 stars for this one. I ultimately picked 5 only because I didn't rave about it as much as my husband and 8 year old did. The major benefit of this dish is that it is very good for you, but also tastes good. I am more of a down home cookin', put gravy on everything kind of gal. But, my health concious husband was grateful that I made this and my 8 year old daughter declared me a great cook after she took a bite. This goes in the rotation.

Hearty and satisfying. It needs more salt and garlic, however. A great side dish.

This is an amazing recipe! I had to make a few changes because I didn't have celery, so I added chopped green peppers, corn and peas instead. I also used pot barley instead of pearl barley, I don't know if there's a difference between the two, but it took over 1 1/2 hours in the oven to fully absorb all the liquid. Everyone loved it, and they all went back for seconds! And leftovers the next day taste great! I will be making this again :)

Very good barley dish! I will probably add shredded chicken next time to make it a main course, but overall, very tasty!
