This tastes just like the barley burger stew my mom makes. I followed the instructions exactly, except I chopped up the whole stalk of celery instead of adding just a 1/4 c, and it tasted great. This recipe is a winner. Making it again tonight.

This was tasty. I had left over tomato juice and celery stalks from Bloody Mary's and needed to find a way to use them up. I found this recipe and had everything needed to make it. I was very happy. I doubled the recipe and then doubled the barley because I really love the stuff and wanted it to be a bigger presence. I did add a bit more spice in the form of cumin and mesquite seasoning, about 1 tsp each. The boyfriend and I ate it up happily. Next time I have leftovers from Bloody Mary's I'm making this!

This is one of my favorite go to recipes and is perfect comfort food. I like to serve it with cornbread or biscuits.

As is, yummy! If you have cooked, frozen burger in the freezer, this stew is almost as quick to make as opening a can but sooooo much better tasting! Great recipe to keep ingredients on hand for unexpected dinner guests. Or even better, multiply the recipe and freeze batches for an even quicker, pull-it-out-of-your-hat meal!

This recipe was pretty good. I ended up adding a can of diced tomatoes and some leftover chunky vegetable spagetti sauce. I would make this again.

I made this for supper tonight and I was really happy with how it turned out! I doubled the recipe and used stew meat as opposed to ground meat and also added carrots and peppers. I will definately make this again :)

I had a 1/2 lb of raw minced beef sitting in the fridge and was looking for a recipe to use it up. I tried this recipe with high hopes as per the other reviews but me and the family found this recipe very bland and boring.

The family LOVED this...I did change it a little: used a large can of petite diced tomatos and garlic salt instead of the tomato juice and regular salt. Though I doubled the recipe, hubby said he wished I made way more. Guess this will be a frequent dinner this fall!

This recipe was GREAT! We used v8 because I had some in the fridge and added some extra veggies. I will be passing this on to my father in law (80 something) who I know will love! Thank you
