Brisket is cooked in a covered pan without water for 4 to 5 hours. It is then sliced, and returned to the pan with barbecue sauce for another hour.

Caramelized sweet onions enhance the flavor of thinly sliced, quickly sauteed liver. Add crisply fried bacon bits for variation.

I'VE SHARED this recipe with many friends who also cook for two. We all agree - small recipes are hard to find! This dish remains one of my favorites since it takes little effort to prepare and is so tasty. Plus, if you are serving a larger group, it is easy to double. -Margery Bryan, Royal City, Washington

With only three ingredients, you can assemble these sandwiches in short order, our food staff confirms. Use store-bought barbecue sauce to flavor your leftover beef it you like. (This recipe works fine with deli roast beef, too.)

Growing up, my Mom used to make barbecued beef in the crock pot and it always tasted so good. It's definitely comfort food for me. After I got out on my own, I was determined to make barbecue beef just like hers, so I tried lots of recipes and finally came up with one of my own. I was so pleased! I called her to tell her and she laughed. She had always just used a bottle of barbecue sauce! We still laugh about that and now I've had to give her my recipe! HA!

'I enjoy fixing a sit-down meal for my husband and myself every evening, so this entree is often on the menu,' writes Anita Keppinger from Philomath, Oregon. 'It's fairly inexpensive and takes little effort to prepare. The tender beef tastes wonderful.'
