This recipe was so easy and soooo delicious. Nice presentation too! I believe the reason some people had trouble with it was because they tried to hurry the process. This is not instant pudding, no fast track here, so slow down and stir, stir and more stirs. While constantly stirring I had the stove temp on High (never stopping) as soon as it started to bubble (slow boil) I turned down the heat to Medium and contined with directions and continued to stir. I used a whisk, got all my ingredients out and measured, eggs first, and by the time I needed them they easily blended with the hot custard. So creamy and so smooth....It's a WINNER!!! I did take the suggestions of a few and used cornstarch (as I feel it thicken smoother) and I also smashed some bananas on the bottom of the baked pie shell. I only had fat free milk so I used 1 1/2 cups of skim and 1/2 cup of Fat Free half and half...Delish! I DID NOT put in the oven.....I let the pie cool and I placed it in the frig at least 2 hours before serving. My pie was completely set in about 45 minutes. Thanks!

This is a good recipe if you like to cook things from scratch. Other recipes make it all too easy by just using pudding mixes-_- which I think defeats the purpose of ''cooking'' since you are only ''mixing'':P. I thank the author for this old fashioned recipe. Now, others have noted that theirs came out ''runny''. For them I say, keep stirring...it takes a while but it WILL become a creamy consistency. I like mine a bit firmer so what I did was adde a TB of cornstarch in a TB of cold milk mixed then tossed it in the warmed mix and kept stirring.

This pie was really tasty. It was more like a banana pie with custard, but it was definitely good.

Tase was good, but it would have turned out better if I hadn't baked it and if, instead of lining the bottom of the pie with bananas, I'd just topped the chilled pie with whipped cream and sliced bananas. I think I'll have to try it again with the changes. The pudding was great, though!

This recipe is sooooo good, it didn't last a day! my 4yr old daughter had 3 slices of this pie straight out of the oven, she didn't mind the gooey pudding at all! and by the way the pudding made all the difference in the world, and I used a pie recipe from this site that is out of this world as well!!! Thanks for the great recipe.

Based on the recipe as is presented. It was so runny! not eatable. Maybe if I had followed the suggestions of using starch. I had this thing on the stove for almost 30 minutes waiting for it to thicken up, didn't. Thought the fridge would do the trick, didn't. The flavour isn't good enough for me to try again. Sorry. I'll just use a different recipe for a custard and put some bananas in it.

I've made this recipe twice, both as is but without the baking. The first time, it was amazing! The second time, the custard was too thick and overset. I may have added a heaping 1|3 cup of flour instead of a flush one, which could be the reason.

This was my first time making a pie, and I chose banana cream pie because it is my absolute favorite! This was very easy to make and I was a little nervous at first, especially after reading some of the reviews, but when I took my first bite I was amazed. It is so good! I couldn't be more proud. I only give this 4 stars, because I did not follow the recipe completely. I used 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/6 cup flour, 1/6 cup cornstarch, 1 teaspoon banana extract, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, I used 1% milk with a little half and half, 2 bananas mashed into the filling, and one banana sliced and layered on the crust (I used graham cracker crust). I did NOT bake this pie. I didn't have any problems with the pie setting. It was the perfect thickness and came out just like a pie should. I recommend playing around with the ingredient rations before you give up on this pie. Everyone likes their pie a certain way, and I am sure you can make this pie work for you.

I have never made banana cream pie and when a friend asked for one for his birthday I thought I would give it a try. It turned out amazing and everyone loved it. After I cooked the pie, I let it cool for over an hour and added whip cream to the top and then chilled it again for 3 more hours. It definitely needs to chill for more than hour. The key to making the pudding part is the stirring, it is not lying about constantly stirring.

Ohhhhh I loved it. The best pie and it's texture is great, the taste feels so good in your mouth I wish I can eat it all day. I did not bake it and I read some reviews: Some really good advice: "1) use less sugar - 1/2 cup, 2) not to bake, 3) use corn starh instead of flour, and 4) CHILL extensively." ALSO: I will try to do what kate reccomended next time, "The best crust for this pie, btw, is a vanilla wafer crust. Just mix 1-1/2 c crushed vanilla wafers w/6 T melted butter and bake for 5 mins at 350. Really sets off the banana pie!" I actually used one banana that was required in the recipe and mushed-and spread it on the crust before I put the filling of pie. Can't wait to do again.

I really was excited about this recipe and was extremely disappointed!!! All this tasted like was really really rich vanilla pudding pie with some bananas. I might as well just go get instant banana pudding instead. :(

Everything was perfect. So simple, but so rich! I also tried an alternative where I added chocolate powder to the custard. . . turned out pretty good.
