Excellent! As others before me I substituted 3 TBS of corn starch for the flour for a smoother, cleaner taste. I made a second pie using coconut and almond extract. Soupy pies are a result of not cooking the starch out of the flour-a common mistake for beginners. I would encourage you to try again with this recipe, it is worth the effort. Thanks for the excellent recipe-sooo much better than instant pudding mix!

This recipe was quick and easy. I followed all ingredients but next time will cut sugar a to 1/3C and will try halfing Cornstarch and Flour. Did not bake at the end. I appreciated how easily this recipe thickened. For reviewers who had difficulty with thickness you did not cook long enough. Will definitely try this receipe again. Possibly using coconut flakes instead of banana since Coconut Cream pie is another favorite.

This was so tasty! I used 1/2 cup of sugar and next time I will cut the sugar back a little more. The natural sweetness of the ripe bananas made this pie pretty sweet. I took the advice of other reviews and didn't bake this pie. I used 3 tablespoons of cornstarch instead of the flour, I didn't want the flour taste in the pudding. When heating the milk mixture it took about 6-7 minutes on medium to set. I used a basic pie crust with half whole wheat pastry flour and all-purpose flour. I baked the pie shell and let it cool before putting the bananas and pudding in the pie shell. Chilled overnight and ate this for breakfast with coffee.

This recipe is fabulous- I've made it twice, and it disappeared within seconds both times. Even my really picky boyfriend loves this pie! I followed other reviewer's recommendations: I used half flour and half corn starch (about 3 TBSP each), used 3 small bananas, didn't bake, and chilled overnight. The second time I made with storebought pie crust which was ok, but definitely better with homemade. Next time I will try with vanilla wafer crust. Thanks for this wonderful recipe!

Very good. The pudding turned out very sweet, but it was excellent. I made this for my Dad (it's his favorite pie) and he loved it as well. I was a little nervous with some reviewers saying that it was runny, but I cooked it extra long to ensure and I used cornstarch vs. flour for a better taste. Thanks!

Great pie! Tasted awesome and garnished many compliments. Used the "Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust" recipe from this site. Did like other reviewers suggested and used a mix of Cornstarch & Flour instead of just flour. Topped it off with a coconut whipped cream and toasted coconut flakes. Also, alternated layering bananas and the cream mixture. Waited till I was about to serve before covering with the whipped cream and toasted coconut like another reviewer suggested. Coconut Whipped Cream: Whip 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream till soft peaks form, add 1 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp coconut extract, and whip until thicker. Flaked Coconut: Preheat oven to 325* degrees. Spread coconut flakes out on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes.

This is so stinking good and so easy! I think that people who say it is runny are not cooking it long enough. You actually cook it more than 2 minutes and you stop cooking it when it gets thick like pudding after you you put in the egg mixture, and then it won't be so runny. I only used 3 bananas and it was so good, that my husband practially ate it all in one day!! Thanks for the recipe!

I made this recipe for our churches pie contest and won first place out of about 30 pies. I made it with a graham cracker crust and did not bake it like the reviews suggested. yeah!

Did like other reviewers and didn't bake the pie (not needed, the custard was thick enough after sitting in the fridge a few hours). Made this for my Mom's birthday and it was gone in a flash!

I tried your recipe with the added suggestion of one of your reviewers - I did not bake the finished pie. I prepared the recipe as stated, but rinsed my bananas in lemon water before putting them in the shell and served with fresh whipped cream topping. It was the best banana cream pie I have had in years! I will definitely make this one again.

I'm giving this pie 4 stars because It tasted great but didn't look great. The pie was too runny ( I took the advice and didn't bake it) also the banana's turned brown even though I had them all buried in the pudding. I couldn't keep my finger's out of the pudding, it was great!

My husband loved this pie. I didn't have to add any cornstarch, I just continued cooking the pudding until it thickened up. I also did not bake it, as the other reviewers suggested not to, and I only used 2 bananas since that's all I had and it still turned out great!

Do not bake the pie, just refrigerate. Do not top with whipped cream until ready to serve. This way the pie won't get runny. My family loves this pie, and I've been making it for over 20 years.

My pie was excellent modified as follows: *I made a pre-baked pie crust using butter *flour (not corn starch) *Silk brand soy milk in place of milk * cook in a double boiler (until thick and bubbly, it won't boil) *stir filling until cool *do not bake the pie

Excellent recipe! I did as others suggested and used 1/2 cornstarch and 1/2 flour as the thickener. Also, another reviewer suggested that there wasn't enough banana flavour. I've always used banana extract instead of vanilla. Adds a rich banana flavour. (I also use coconut extract in my coconut cream pie.)

This is by far the best banana cream pie recipe I have ever tried. After reading several other reviews, I decided to 1/6 cup flour and 1/6 cornstarch in place of 1/3 cup flour. Instead of layering the bananas on top of my pie crust and then adding the custard, I folded the bananas into the custard. This is a delicious pie. My whole family loved it.

This was my first time making pie and my husband requested that I make him banana cream pie so I did. I didn't bake it I just let it sit in the fridge for a few hours and I also topped it with whipped. Once I sliced it it was very runny and I was bummed, but my husband loved it he just said it looks like banana pudding but delicious. So next time i'll take the advice with the 1/3 cup of cornstarch. I put it in the freezer and it doesn't look runny anymore. If anyone had problems with the runny pie put it in the fridge and you got yourself a good looking pie! Overall it was very good and i'm enjoying a slice right now.
