This was a really good recipe to start with, but I'm giving it only four stars because I had to listen to other reviewers about adding vanilla and cinnamon. Very good once you add those!

I just wanted to add that I made this banana bread with gluten-free, all-purpose flour and it came out scrumptious!

so incredibly moist...few changes i made were that i left out the walnuts and then sprinkled the top with cinnamon. I also baked it in an 8x8 pan for 45 minutes instead of a loaf pan.

THere are better recipes out there. I've made them--I just wanted to try a different recipe that's been sitting in my box for a few years. I'm not really impressed. It lacks overall flavor--even after adding more banana than specified and cinnamon and vanilla. It baked in just over 50 minutes and looked beautiful, smelled amazing--it doesn't taste BAD, it just doesn't have the gusto many other banana bread recipes out there do have.

As others have done, I added 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp nutmeg and 1 tsp cinnamon. Instead of 1 cup of sugar, I only added 1/2 cup of white sugar and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Instead of walnuts (allergies) I included 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Very moist and the aroma through the house was incredible!

Loved it! The flavor was very good. I did as others suggested and used 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar. Added in 1 tsp. vanilla. I also omitted the nuts just because I didn't have any. Took along time for the center to bake but my oven could be to blame. The best banana bread I have ever made so thanks from the whole family!

I made 2 loafs back-to-back. I like moist dense banana nut bread. Nothing like fluffy regular cake. The 1st batch I made I followed the recipe to a T. The 2nd loaf I made using reviews. I liked the 2nd one better. For this reason alone the recipe gets 4 stars - I'm not trying to make spice cake out of this banana nut bread recipe, but it really needs spices. Even so my husband thought it could be even less "cake-y". Enhancements made: Use real (unsalted) butter. Don't cook longer than 50m. Add 1.5 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla. I used half brown sugar and half white sugar. Walnuts are not optional. I will try using buttermilk next time as a reviewer suggested, that might be fun to try. Maybe even some nutmeg.

Can't give it a 5, since I took hints from other cooks. More bananas, sour cream to replace the milk, butter rather than margarine, 1/2 brown, 1/2 white sugar, then threw in golden raisins, about a cup, and 1/2 chopped walnuts. Turned out great, and thanks to ONYX78 Nov. 6 2004 for her help. Cookie

This recipe was great! My very picky fiance LOVED it. I made the bread in a 12 muffin pan and it turned out great muffins although they fell apart a little trying to get them out of the pan. I tweaked it by following the other reviewers advice and adding 1/2 brown and 1/2 white sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. Lovely!

This banana bread is absolutely irresistible. It is so moist and delicious that I cannot seem to have enough of it. I made a few changes though. I added 2 tsp. vanilla extract and instead of using 2 cups of white sugar, i used 2 cups of brown sugar. These small changes make it even better. Trust me, I have made this over a dozen times and it never fails to satisfy.

This banana bread was good to me, but the kids really enjoyed it. I made a few changes: To cut on fat I only used 1/4 cup of butter and added 1/4 cup of sour cream, added cinnamon, vanilla extract and omitted the walnuts because the kids prefer without it.

This is the best banana bread recipe that I have found - I've been using it for a couple years now, and refuse to try another one. Often I toss in some chocolate chips because I am such a chocolate lover. It always turns out perfect and moist, with no hard or rubbery edges on the sides or bottom.
