Baked Ziti
SUBMITTED BY:
Elaine Anderson
"I enjoy making this dish for family and friends. It's easy to prepare, and I like to get creative with the sauce. For example, sometimes I might add my home-canned tomatoes, mushrooms or vegetables. -Elaine Anderson Aliquippa, Pennsylvania"

Cook pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce. In a bowl, combine the eggs, ricotta cheese, 1-1/2 cups mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese.
Drain pasta; add to cheese mixture and toss to coat. Spoon a third of the meat sauce into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking dish; top with half of the pasta mixture. Repeat layers. Top with remaining meat sauce.
Cover and bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes. Uncover; sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese. Bake 5-10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.

This recipe is very like the one my mom made for us when we were kids. It's important to put the sauce in the bottom of the pan 1st - as indicated in the recipe, otherwise you may get sticking/burning problems. Many of the other recipes do not call for it, but it's an important step. I forgot to put the eggs in this time, but I will next time for sure. Maybe I'll add some mushrooms, too. I used fresh-grated pecorino cheese on top, as it was all I had on hand, and it still came out very well. Thanks for posting a great recipe!

This recipe was quick, easy and turned out well for us. I only used one pound of ground beef, which I sauteed with a 10 oz. pckg. of mushrooms and a clove of minced garlic. Added some dried basil, salt & pepper to the cheese mixture and used Trader Joe's Rustico Sauce. I think the ratio of meat to cheese was perfect this way, and if I ever decided to use the full two pounds of ground beef, I would make sure to have more sauce on hand. Thanks, Elaine.

Amazing recipe! My fiance asks me to make this all the time. The cook time is perfect for the 6 settings and everything! I didn't change it at all other than adding Italian Seasoning to the meat/sauce mixure! My first meal when we moved in - PERFECT & EASY

Wonderful recipe, yummy comfort food that is fast and easy to prepare on a busy weeknight. My favorite Baked Ziti recipe - will be using this from now on. The only chang I made was to sustitute 1 lb ground turkey and 1 lb italian sausage for the 2 lbs of ground beef. Thanks!

Easy and delicious, a true family favorite! It makes a ton and the leftovers are great. I used a spicy tomato basil sauce.

I made this recipe twice, once using ground beef, and once using ground turkey; and both were great. In both cases I halved the amount of meat and there was just the right amount. I also added about 50% more sauce. Great left-over as well.

This was okay. I guess if I'm going to the trouble, I'd just make a lasagna. Tasted about the same, just different noodles.
