I never thought to put a whole chicken in the slow cooker. We were snowed in today so I thought I would try it. I liked the idea of previous users of putting some chicken broth in but we didn't have any so we used beef broth. I put about a cup in with diced celery, potatoes, and onion strips. I also added salt, pepper, garlic salt, and poultry magic into the cooker. I rubbed butter and seasoning all over the chicken as well as stuffing the inside with some of the veggies. I turned it once while cooking. Cooked it on high for 5 hours and it was so delicious! The chicken fell right off the bone and the vegetables were amazing! Great recipe for a winter day!

I took the suggestion of others and used onions on the bottom instead of foil. I also stuffed the cavity with onions and garlic. It was fall off the bone tender, but didn't have much flavor. I will try again, since it was so easy, but will try any suggestions in other reviews that will hopefully make it more flavorful.

I seasoned it with garlic powder, parsley and a couple of tablespoons of honey and it was delicious! BUT, I'm glad I was watching it, as it was falling off the bone and done by 2 hours on high and 1 1/2 hours on low! (I used a 4.8lb chicken) Great recipe idea! Thanks!

I took other users suggestions and lined the bottom of the crock pot with veggies instead on foil. 2 Onions, 2 Carrots, and 2 Celery Stalks, chopped. I added about a cup of Chicken Broth. The Chicken was delicious, extremely most and tasty. I ate some that some, and use the rest to make chicken soup.

Fall off the bone tender. Great and easy recipe for weekday meal. Some say it's bland - I say add any seasoning you want. The recipe is a good base recipe that anyone can modify to suit their tastes. If you want to present a nice-looking, whole chicken at the dinner table, though, you might want to find another recipe. With care, however, you can remove it piece by piece...breast, wings, thighs, legs. Getting it out whole without falling apart is something I have yet been able to do.

The chicken was fall off the bone but it didn't have a lot of flavor. I'll need to do something to give it a little more taste.

Loved it! I did make a few changes, poured some chicken broth in the bottom and added lots of onions! I have made it several times and look forward to it every time!

Very bland. I highly recommend adding more seasoning to this recipe. My 3.5 lb chicken also came out a little dry. If I make his recipe again I'll add more spices and adjust cooking time.

I think this chicken tasted okay as-is, and I'm sure it could be better after experimenting with different seasonings. Otherwise, its just a convenient way to cook a moist chicken (if you don't mind not having the crispy skin) -- nothing more, nothing less.

I made this for the family and I loved it and so did my children... My Husband on the other hand missed the baked skin.. our chicken did not fall of the bone, it was most and lots of flavor and it was wonderful.. I would make this again if my Husband was no so dang picky .. this was a wonderful dish and tasted oh so most .. moster then my chicken cooked in the oven. I season it with Seasoning Salt, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder and just a little Creo seasoning.. I then made homemade gravey and potatoes.. Yum, Yum good.. yes, I would make this every week or two but because he is a you know what.. I am sorry to say , that I will be wasting time on a dry chicken just to have the crust on the chicken

So good and so easy! I used carrots intead of foil, but next time I will use celery, as I didn't like the carrot flavored that the gravy had that I made afterwards :) This chicken was so moist and delicious. I don't think I'll ever make chicken in the oven again! Left overs are great for the Holiday Chicken Salad Recipe from this site.

I was skeptical, but I watched the video and thought it looked good. My chicken looked pale and corpse-like, and extremely unappetizing. No one wanted to eat it once they got a good look at it. I had to make a different meal and save the meat for something else. Perhaps there is no substitute for roasting a chicken in the oven. Especially for a family like mine that fights over crispy skin.

Excellent! I put red potatos at the bottom instead of tin foil and cooked on high for 1 hour and on low for 5 hours and it came out perfect! Also added Rosemary inside and out and the aroma and taste was fantastic.

This recipe is easy and tastes great. I had about a 4lb chicken and 10 hrs was too long. The chicken turned out dry. I made it a second time & cooked it about 8 hrs-much better!

I rated this recipe a 5 for the simplicity and the technique. The foil at the bottom of the chicken was brilliant and the chicken cooked perfectly. I will definately make again but next time I will add some chopped onion and garlic and maybe even some celery and potatoes.
