5 star method but to be truly delicious, this recipe needs more seasoning. Make a rub with salt and pepper by doubling the paprika, adding garlic powder and a pinch of cayenne, and few tsps of sugar to mimic caramelization on the skin. Throw an onion and some chopped celery in the cavity. Also, roast breast side down to keep the breast meat moist... you won't get the bird out in one piece anyhow so it doesn't really matter how it looks. Easy way to prepare a delicious chicken.

I followed recipe exactly and I thought it was just okay. Not enough flavor. Maybe next time I will try some other suggestions. Thanks

I was always daunted by making a whole chicken, but I was surprised by how easy this was. I followed other review suggestions and added 1 can of chicken broth, and some carrots, celery and little red potatoes into the bottom of the pot. I also stuffed a quartered red onion into the cavity, and those onions tasted amazing! I cooked on high for the first hour, and then on low for 8 hours and the chicken ended up being a little bit dry, so I may not cook on the low setting for quite so long next time. Overall this was delicious, super-easy, and I'm sure I'll make this again.

Yummy. Out of fairness, I rated this four stars because I didn't follow the recipe exactly. I substituted foil with onion, carrots, celery, garlic, and potatoes. I seasoned the veggies with salt, pepper, powdered garlic, paprika, and olive oil. I used 5 chicken legs because my crock pot is too small for a whole chicken. I seasoned the drumsticks on top of the skin and underneath the skin with the same spices I used for the veggies (minus olive oil). I broiled the drumsticks for 4 min. on each side because I wanted to brown the skin. The leftover meat is great for chicken soup.

If you add any seasoning to chicken and slow cook it it's good.

Really, really good. I followed many of the reviews and changed a few things. Started with a layer of onions, baby carrots and a few cloves of garlic..set the chicken on top of that and added just a 1/4 cup of chicken broth so the veggies didn't stick to the bottom. Stuffed the chicken with more onions, garlic and fresh herbs (rosemary, sage, thyme)...seasoned top with s&p. Cooked on high for 1 hour, then low for 7 hours. It was moist but not totally falling apart - just lost one leg! I will definitely do this all the time now and can't wait to try different seasonings. I was skeptical about the little to no liquid, but it truly doesn't need it...thinking about turning the broth it made into soup right now!!

This turned out really well, but I did make a few changes. Instead of putting the foil on the bottom, I added some chopped potatoes and carrots. I also added half an onion and a few sprigs of thyme to the cavity. Talk about great flavor!

This is a great recipe! I used rotisserie seasoning on my chicken instead of the paprika. I also used a 4 lb chicken. It turned out great. It was so moist it actually fell a part when I was getting it out of the crock-pot. This recipe will definitely be a favorite!! Thanks!!!

DON'T ADD LIQUIDS! Very good and simple. Many people are complaining about it being dry, and I think it's because they are adding some form of liquid. I would HIGHLY recommend not doing that. The secret to slow cooker cooking is not adding water which will boil the meat because a slow cooker will not allow water to evaporate. They actually recommend cutting any liquids by 20% when cooking in a slow cooker. That said, if you follow this as written (save for maybe spicing it different), it turns out moist and delicious.

I cooked a 6.5 lb chicken for the suggested amount of time, and it was way overdone. I would suggest a shorter cooking time, especially for smaller birds.

This is so easy and so delicious! We love garlic so I added 6 whole garlic cloves and a quartered onion to the cavity for extra flavor. I cooked it on low all day while at work, about 11 hours, and it turned out perfect. It wasn't overcooked and fell off the bone. This is my favorite way to cook whole chicken, thanks for the recipe!

I seasoned my chicken with Lawry's seasoning salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. I put it on low and night and when I got ready to go to work, it was done. Served it with confetti rice and collard greens. Delicious and easy!!!

I placed the chicken on quartered onions instead of foil and stuffed the cavity with orange quarters. Chicken was tender, but the breasts turned out dry. Because of how easy it was, I will probably make it again.

Based on a few of the other reviews, I made a few modifications to the recipe. Added my favorite seasoning and stuffed the chicken with onions and garlic. Instead of foil, I added onions with a lil bit of chicken broth. Cooked for 6 hours and it came out very good and tender!
