I made this soup at the request of a young friend who has had their jaw wired shut due to an injury, but I don't think they're going to get much of it, it's too good! I followed all the directions, but omitted the onion at the patient's request and didn't realize the potatoes had to be pre-baked, but it only took an additional few minutes for them to cook. I also used fat free milk and added salt and pepper to taste. It did turn out very thick (probably because of the additional cooking time), but is easily rectified w/additional milk or water. This will be puree'd for the patient, who needs the extra fat and calories while eating only things that will fit through a straw. I'm adding this to my favorite soups! Thanks for the recipe!

GREAT!!! I found this to be a great recipe! Usually when I make this soup, I bake the potatoes, and instead of throwing the peels away, I make potato skins! About this recipe, I like the way the flour makes it nice and thick. But instead of using 7 cups of milk, I used 4 cups, and it fed 6 people!

Wonderful and easy! (I used wheat flour instead of all-purpose and it still tasted great. Sauted mushrooms and the onions in the bacon grease before added them for more kick. Everything else per recipe = Yum!!)

This was a little too thick for me...I'm going to try subbing in a bit of chicken broth for some of the milk and see if that helps. The flavor was pretty good, though. UPDATE: I doubled this recipe, but only used 1 cup each of flour and butter. I also subbed about 2 cups of the milk for chicken broth. Also only increased sour cream by 1/2 cup. My family enjoyed the soup even more with these changes!

Made it with sour cream, cheese, bacon, and green onions for toppings. Used left-over mashed potatoes and it was fine

I loved this recipe. My family and I enjoyed it. It brought a new flavor into our home. I recommend that some seasoning be added for more flavor!!! But it was great without it!

I had two gallons of milk that was going bad in a few days so I was looking for a recipe to use up milk. I combined this recipe with some ideas I got from others (used chirizo instead of bacon, added 2 cans of sliced mushrooms) and chopped fresh parsley. It turned out great, but the consistency with the 7 cups of milk worked out perfect. I would certainly recommend using this as a base recipe with your own spin.

Looking for a recipe to appease my 9 yr old who wanted Potato Soup. Googled and this was the first recipe that popped up! It was amazing! My son and his friend ate it up! It's perfect as is - I probably won't change a thing next time!

I tweaked this recipe a bit, so it is not really this recipe anymore, but I did use it as the base. I included the bacon fat with the butter, and then added about 1 cup of chopped celery and then cooked that until tender. I also heated the milk. I added 5 cups of warm milk, and then 2 cups of chicken broth. Make sure to cook the mixture a while after adding the milk, it will take the starchy taste out. All in all, it was a good recipe, but you can add much more flavor with the bacon fat and celery. With these additions, I would say it is very similar to Outback Steakhouse potato soup recipe. Very good!

It was quite bland, but I added some garlic powder and marjoram and that seasoned it up quite nicely. PS - the blandness is probably my own fault because we use fat free everything and soy milk.
