Very good!!! I cooked the onions and some celery in some of the bacon drippings before adding it to the milk. Will make again

This recipe was very good. I did feel like it was missing something, so next time I will try seasoning it more, and possibly, add more butter. Very good start, though!

It is hard to find a potato soup better than this! A coworker made this soup and brought it to a pot luck. He handed out the recipe at work, now we are all addicted!

This is a delicious recipe. I add 2 chopped carrots for extra veggies. It's definitely a great cold weather family favorite.

The best potato soup hands down. I didn't add the bacon into the soup. We just sprinkled some on top when served. Also, I used skim milk and 1/2 the sour cream. Added 3Tbs of ranch seasoning powder. My whole family was wowed by this recipe. Thank you for sharing:)

This is a great recipe, however at first it may be a bit bland for some but it does leave plenty of room to work on new flavors without taking away from the consistancy.

Very good recipe. I added some ground red pepper and garlic and reserved the bacon as a garnish, it's very good I'm eating it right now.

This was delicious! I knew by the amount of bacon and cheese in this recipe that I was going to enjoy it. The only thing I changed was that I used cornstarch instead of flour because I can't have gluten. Would definately make this again!

I followed this recipe pretty closely, and WOW, it is good. I used 1% milk, lite sour cream, and turkey bacon in an effort to reduce the fat in this recipe. I was a little wary of some of the negative reviews, but I was very pleased with how this turned out. However I do agree that it was a bit bland, so I seasoned it w/ extra salt, pepper, and garlic salt. But it's still a 5-star recipe, in my opinion. I thought the proportion of "stuff" in the soup was just perfect. And the soup itself has such a smooth, silky texture. I don't need to go looking for another baked potato soup recipe. This is it!

Hmmmm.... I don't think I like this.... This soup is WAAAY too thick and chunky (i.e. too many potatoes IMHO) and quite bland. I like a nice creamy soup (yes), but this was almost like a thick potato casserole - in a bowl. There was barely any "broth" (if that's what you call it) to dunk my sourdough bread into. I did like the tang that the sour cream gave this, which is surprising since I usually don't care for it other than as a garnish. I couldn't decide b/t this soup and absolutely ultimate potato soup by Karena, so I did a little combining of the two. I sauteed a small yellow onion, 2 stalks of celery & ~ 3 T fresh minced garlic in bacon grease, threw my cubed potatoes in, s&p'd to taste, tossed all to coat & then proceeded with Sherry's directions. I did add equal amounts of fat free milk and chicken broth to enhance the flavor as others suggested (I needed to use my "about to expire" refrigerated broth) and ended up tossing half of my crumbled bacon into the soup and heating as directed. I topped my serving with the rest of the bacon, some scallions and a handful of shredded cheddar cheese. I'm going to try slow cooker creamy potato soup by ROZANRENEE as I think I will like that better. Thanks for sharing!

great recipie, and i will use it again. i made this recepie for 100 women this sunday and they loved it so much i got a standing ovation that i was real embarraced about. i didn't cook it with the cheese in it, i let it be an option. i served it in a sourdough bread bowl and i eyeballed the up scale. but it was delicious. i don't recomend the home cook to eyeball the recipie up to 100 because it doesn't always work just by multiplying the numbers.

I made this soup at the request of a young friend who has had their jaw wired shut due to an injury, but I don't think they're going to get much of it, it's too good! I followed all the directions, but omitted the onion at the patient's request and didn't realize the potatoes had to be pre-baked, but it only took an additional few minutes for them to cook. I also used fat free milk and added salt and pepper to taste. It did turn out very thick (probably because of the additional cooking time), but is easily rectified w/additional milk or water. This will be puree'd for the patient, who needs the extra fat and calories while eating only things that will fit through a straw. I'm adding this to my favorite soups! Thanks for the recipe!

GREAT!!! I found this to be a great recipe! Usually when I make this soup, I bake the potatoes, and instead of throwing the peels away, I make potato skins! About this recipe, I like the way the flour makes it nice and thick. But instead of using 7 cups of milk, I used 4 cups, and it fed 6 people!

Wonderful and easy! (I used wheat flour instead of all-purpose and it still tasted great. Sauted mushrooms and the onions in the bacon grease before added them for more kick. Everything else per recipe = Yum!!)
