Ohmigosh! THIS recipe is the best potato soup recipe I have ever run across! The only thing I did was I added a couple of light dashes of nutmeg to the soup as it cooked. I served this soup with some thinnly sliced onion deli bread, buttered it and toasted it until crunchy in a toaster oven. Great flavor and great for dipping. It was lighter than crackers and just added alittle more jazz to an already fabulous soup.

OMG(osh)! Great recipe!!! I know this because my 16 y/o son and his associates (accomplices) ate my entire test batch, then had me make more. I did reserve about 1/3 of the cheese and bacon to add to the top while serving, and added just a bit more salt to taste, but otherwise made this to spec. It was great! Thanks for the recipe.

I love potato soup, and this recipie is very similar to the one I already had for this amazing comfort dish- with the exception that mine used 6 cups 2% milk. I also put in thinly sliced kielbasa sausage (that I have already par cooked for about 3 minutes in boiling water) and a dash of nutmeg. It is wonderful!!!

Love this recipe. I used Lactaid so that my lactose sensitive hubby can enjoy this as much as I do.

FANTASTIC! Ive handed this recipe out to several people...I use regular onions instead of green onions though. A favorite in my family...even better left over....jujst add milk if it gets too thick. Yummy!

I thought this was terrific! I doubled the recipe and used 13 cups of fat free milk, and 1 cup of Heavy Whipping Cream. Also, I used Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese which gave it a really nice bite! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a wonderful soup. I've made this twice. The only thing I changed the second time was I simmered it for about 5 minutes. It was already thick enough. For leftovers, I just add a little more milk to thin it out.

I made this last night, instead of the potato soup I usually make (also from this site). It tasted like flour. I had to add more flavor by using chicken granuals, celery salt and onion powder. It turned out extremely thick, like sludge, after it had cooled a bit. I would decrease the flour, and maybe add some more veggies.

Sauted onion and garlic in butter before adding flour. Would have liked to have added celery, but didn't have any so I used some celery seed. Instead of using all milk I mixed in chicken broth (50/50)

I made this soup for this morning for dinner tonight. It was really good and my family enjoyed it a lot. I did make a lot of changes though. As per previous reviewers, I reduced the margarine and flour to 1/4 c each, added about 1 tsp bacon grease and did a medley of carrots, celery and onion (each about 3/4 c) and sauteed them in the margarine before adding the flour. I saved the bacon crumbles, cheese and sour cream for serving. I used a lot of chicken broth and only about 2 cups milk. At first I didn't add enough broth and as the soup cooled it got way to thick...I added about another 2 cups broth and it was the best consistence for us. It reheated well too.
