If I could give this a 10 I would!!!! Excellent, superb, irresistable! I used chopped apples and raisins instead of cranberries just because I didn't have cranberries at home. Except for that, I didn't change a thing. I live in Pennsylvania Amish country (2 miles from Smicksburg) and was a little doubtful when I read the description, but my my, this is definitely a Pennsylvania Amish taste. I read a review that compared it to tasting like oatmeal cookies and milk, I agree! I think I'll add this one to my Christmas breakfast menu!!! Thank you for the wonderful post!

Excellent recipe. Omit butter for a healthier, but still delicious recipe.

This tastes great, but seemed a bit dry to me. I made it the night before & baked it the next morning. Maybe the oatmeal soaked up too much of the liquid overnight. I'm not sure. We just put some in a bowl & added milk to it. It was fine that way. Cranberries are a nice touch. Might add some walnuts or pecans next time.

Very good, but really sweet and more like a dessert than a breakfast food. I used raisins rather than cranberries, just because of my personal preference. The serving sizes are very generous, and even though I halved the recipe for just two of us, there is plenty left over.

My Dad had this at a little mom and pop restaurant, I kicked myself for not ordering it when our food came. so I came home and whipped up this recipe. Yummy! my 8 year old can't get enough of it. So today I'm going to make another batch and add apples and raisins. If your looking for a nice fall comfort food, this is it! it makes your house smell sooooooo good too! 2 thumbs up from this house! Thanks Lucy

I made a big batch of this one Saturday morning and everyone really liked it! It's a good warm and cozy meal for a rainy weekend day! It needed to cook it a little longer than 40 min.

This recipe is wonderful! I made it with raisins, and used Splenda for Baking instead of the sugar, 1/4 cup canola oil and 1/4 cup applesauce in place of the butter. This will become one of our regular weekend breakfasts! Great with yogurt and fresh berries.

This is a great recipe ,especially if you eat oatmeal almost every morning. Leftovers reheat well the next day. I used olive oil instead butter, a little maple syrup instead of the sugar, and frozen blueberries. It came out sort of cakey with a nice crust, and not crumbly at all...& yummy! Thanks for the recipe.

I make oatmeal every day but get tired of having to stand over the stove for ten minutes while it cooks. This recipe is a great compromise! I used a 12 ounce can of reduced fat evaporated milk in place of skim and cut the brown sugar in half (it's still plenty sweet). It reheats very well, even after a couple of days, and is as filling as a bowl of regular oatmeal. Thanks!

Good stuff! This is NOT oatmeal squares, as you can gather from other reviews - so don't make it if you want squares to cut out and serve. It is a crumbly cereal for breakfast, like a heartier version of stove-top oatmeal. I ate some plain and some with milk. Used sultana raisins instead of cranberries only because no cranberries around house, but you could use any dry fruit or chocolate chips, anything that doesn't absorb water which you'd put in oatmeal. Easy and tasty. Just plan for the baking time. No extra sugar needed to serve, it's plenty sweet.

This is a good basic recipe. Lots of changes can be made to suit your tastes. I like the texture of this, we scoop it into bowls and pour milk over it. I add some milled flax seed for the nutrional value and it gives it a slightly nutty flavor. It's also great with chopped apples and raisins. I also put this in the crockpot on low for 3 hours during one of my kid's snow days last week, they got to go sled while breakfast was cooking and it turned out great, a little more moist than in the oven.

This was so easy and quick to mix up, and the flavor is wonderful. I believe I will also try just a little bit more milk next time, as it did seem slightly drier than I thought it would- but it was still really good! I liked the dried cranberries- would also like to try it again using raisins and some chopped pecans!

Very good! I used dried blueberries. It turned out kind of like granola (a wetter granola) so I had mine with yogurt. Made the house smell great, and made great leftovers. I will be making this a lot!

I would not make this again. It was crumbly, so we tried it in a bowl with milk as someone else suggested and it still didn't taste right.

My family loved this, for breakfast and even for a dessert! I am going to be making this alot! It did come out a little crumbly but I figured I'd add a little more milk the next time. I will be making this for dessert today and adding apples to it. A little bit of Reddi-whip and your all set.
