I served this to my family who was skeptical about the ingredients I was putting in, and it turned out to be the best stew they've ever had! I highly recommend it!

This is a wonderful recipe with a rich, hearty flavor and is perfect for cold, snowy nights. I omit the bread (it becomes soggy) but otherwise leave the recipe exactly as is!

I have been making this stew since I got married. I make a few adjustments though, I add corn since my husband and kinds like it in there and I also add a jar of beef gravy to give the stew a better consistency. Other than that I make it as is and everyone who has had it has loved it!

DELICIOUS! I used canned whole tomatoes because that's what I had, and eliminated the celery and bread. I added some beef broth & baked it for about 3 hours. So tender & yummy tasting!

Very Good Recipe. I cooked this in the slow cooker and it turned out wonderful. I doubled the water, used corn starch in place of tapioca, and doubled the vegetables. I also added 1 packet of dry onion soup mix. My beef stew meat was still pretty much frozen when I put it in the slow cooker. Cooked on low for about 8-9 hours...was perfect!

The taste of this stew is good. We have made it twice and never really gotten the consistency of the stew as the recipe is written. It's very watery and the globs of bread are just kind of gross. We like the tomato flavor for something different. Perhaps the problem is not the recipe, but the directions. Maybe the tapioca should be dissolved in the water first? Since I've never cooked with it, this may be where we went wrong. Overall, it does taste good.

was a big hit and super easy to make. no pre-cook of the beef had me questioning at first, but came out super tender. substituted 1 1/2 tablespoons corn starch in the place of tapioca. super easy recipe, good hearty meal. keeper!

I followed the advice of some of the other reviewers and breaded the meat first. Everyone said it was one of the best stews they ever had. It did seem like a lot more work than a pot or slow cooker stew though.
