the only reason i gave this four stars instead of five is because i used the ingredients, but didn't follow the directions. after browning the bacon, celery, and onions, i added one cup of milk and 2 T of flour to make a roux before i added everything else. It made the soup thicken much quicker and it ended up tasting really good! Very rich for a chowder that doesn't include cream.

I really liked this. The kids even ate it. I think that next time I would use less potato and more corn (not much of a potato) person. Some cheese would be good too.

Simple, excellent & very filling! I too used chicken broth in place of the water and fat free half & half in place of the milk.

I loved the receipe. I made it last night for the three of us. Me, my husband and 14month daughter. It was wonderful. I did make a modification -- I used chicken broth instead of water, and 2 1/2 cups of shredded hash browns instead of cut up potatos. Much easier then peeling and cutting them. I love to receipe cheat! Great receipe, and I will make it again.

This soup has a wonderful flavor! I would suggest browning your bacon first, and then adding the onion/celery so that the bacon gets very crisp. Also, I would suggest doubling this recipe - it doesn't make an enormous amount, and when I make soup, I like leftovers! Good, hearty, flavorful chowder!

Ok! I thought this would be too salty but I followed the directions exactly anyway, and I am glad I did! YUMMMY!!!!! Not too salty, just right! Every other corn chowder I have ever made was boring and bland. This one is flavorful and delicious!

Easy and delicious..and I usually always have these ingredients on hand which is why it's a good recipe for me..this recipe doesn't make a LOT though. You might want to double it for a family.

This was good - surprisingly flavorful. I didn't use celery and I cooked the bacon in the oven and then crumbled it in with the sauteed onion to make sure it wasn't mushy. Very easy and had a nice meaty flavor. Will make again.

This was pretty good. I followed the advice of others and made the bacon extra crispy, added a cup of milk, and simmered for an hour.

This was pretty good. I also doubled the recipe, I had two men to feed. And added more bacon than what the original recipe called for. Be sure to crisp up the bacon almost to the point of over done so it doesn't turn soggy in the soup.

This chowder was pretty good. I used half chicken broth and half water. I had to add more potatoes than the recipe called for, though. Be sure to cook the bacon thouroughly with the celery and onion before you add the water, potatoes, corn, etc. so it's not soggy!

Very good recipe. I had all ingredients on hand and decided to make this on a snowy day. Glad I did. Husband and children both wanted more. I suggest doubling the recipe as I ran out and the family was wanting more.

With a few minor changes, this was a great recipe. I doubled the recipe because I wanted leftovers! It's delicious so why go to the trouble of cooking if you don't have enough of this for a second meal! I used chicken broth instead of water and 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of 1/2&1/2 instead of 2 cups of milk. I also added approx. 10 drops of Tabasco. Since I prefer thicker soups/chowders, I simmered this for about 45 minutes. I didn't like how thin it was by just heating it through and simmering it thickened it to perfection. It was wonderful!

This is a delicious and very filling soup. I doubled the recipe for my family of 5 and only have a little bit left over! I substituted 1/2 the water with chicken broth. It is especially good with coarse ground black pepper.
