This was awesome! Using the advice of others, I did change a few things. First I dusted the roast with flour, granulated garlic, salt and pepper and browned it on all sides. Then I added beef broth to the sauce instead of water, and I added some red wine, Worcestershire and smashed garlic. About two hours before serving I added baby carrots and sliced baby bella mushrooms. And finally, an hour before serving I added some white potatoes. DELICIOUS! I will definitely make this a cold-weather staple!

I used this recipe to make my first roast ever! I wish i would have seasoned the pork but overall the gravy came out great. I added potato, carrots, sweet onion and a little celery half-way through; i didnt think there would be enough room but there was plenty! very tender, i had none left the next day!

We recently bought a house and went from having a ten minute commute to a one hour commute!!! In the interest of time I bought a slow cooker and this is the very first recipe I made it was AWESOME!! I did have a couple problems though 1) It was very greasy, but I believe this was user error, I need to spend more time trimming next time. 2) It needed A LOT of salt, I don't know if this is due to the fact that I had to skim soooo much fat from the top that it got rid of some flavor or not but I did have to add a lot after serving. The gravy was soooo good over mashed potatoes. I'll definitely be making this again!

Best Pot Roast I have ever made. I used a small tri-tip roast because I am cooking for 2 but I wish I would have made more for leftovers. I will use this one again. I followed the recipe, used cornstarch to thicken the gravy.

I had to review this recipe. I don't know if it was because it's my first slow cooker roast or because I was starving after work but this meal was fantastic. I should give it 4 because I used all of your amazing reviews to tweak it. I seared a 3 lb bottom round. Mixed a half can cream of chicken and full can cream of mushroom, half can red wine, half can water, and 1/8 tsp red pepper flakes. I put the roast in, covered with fingerling potatoes and baby carrots and two small cloves of garlic (peeled and left whole). I actually did all this last night before bed, left it in the fridge and put it on low before work (8 hrs). When my fiance and I got home, it smelled like heaven and I swear if we weren't already engaged, he'd pop the question right there :)

Super easy to make and delicious. I mixed the extra packet of onion soup mix with a tub of sour cream and made a delicious condiment for the meat and potatoes...SO good.

the best part was how tender the meat was. I only cooked on low for 7 hours and it was perfect. The only problem was that it was too salty for my taste. I also added the cornstarch beef boulillon cubes to the water. I will make again, but try to find out what to omit to lower the salty flavor.

With a few changes, this was absolutely divine! I put the roast in the crockpot along with the soup and water, omitted the onion mix and added chopped fresh onions, celery, potato, and carrots. Added a couple of dashes of worcestershire sauce and slow cooked it for about 6-7 hours. About 1hr before it was done I whisked about a tbsp. of cornstarch into the gravy. OMGosh! My family ate it up and asked me to make more TOMORROW! The roast just fell apart when I tried to pick it up with the tongs lol! This recipe satisfied from 6yrs old to 53yrs old! Thanks so much! Bon Appetite!

This recipe by itself was great! The gravy was a little thin but had I not been ready to eat immediately I would have thickened it with cornstrach. My husband rated this 3.5-4 stars because he wanted it to be spicier, next time I'll probably add some red pepper flakes to it. Definitely a keeper.

Like many other reviews, i cahnged the water to beef broth, but kept everything else the same. The roast was fabulous and I added cornstarch to the liquid toward the end of the cylce. IT WAS THE BEST BROWN GRAVY I'VE EVER HAD!!! I served it with mashed baby reds (peels included!).

So easy and delicious! YUM! Even the worst cook in the world can't mess this up! Here's what I did differently: Dry meat (Julia Child recommends...) and sear on all sides in olive oil. Then I spread an entire bottle of horseradish around the outside. You can and should do this with baked roasts too! It's wonderful! I followed the rest of the recipe as-is. Also, used cream of celery instead of mushroom. Came out fall-off-the-bone-perfect and all of the men in my family loved it.

I actually got this recipe from my husbands grandmother, and it is the most melt in your mouth Roast my family has ever had. Juices left over also make amazing gravy for mashed potatoes.

The cream of mushroom soup and dry onion soup are good, but instead of those, add GOLDEN cream of mushroom soup and a can of French onion soup. Very, very delicious! The GOLDEN mushroom soup does make a difference.
