This is a family favorite that we have enjoyed for years. I sprinkle meat w garlic powder first then dredge with flour and brown on all sides in small amt. olive oil before putting in slow cooker. Add one medium sized onion to crock pot at the beginning of cook time. Do not add any extra salt as sodium content is very high. Delicious.

Delicious! The only thing I will do differently next time is brown the meat first, and use less water (thought about using beef broth instead too). The gravy was a little too thin for me.

This roast is the best I have ever had!! It was so tender that it just about fell apart when I was taking it out of the crockpot. I was a bit worried that it wouldn't be completely cooked by the time I got home from work because I put it in completely frozen. It turned out perfectly!! I did add a little flour to the gravy to thicken it up. My family loved it. I will definitely make this again.

This is the easiest and best pot roast ever. I don't know why people are making so many changes. You don't need them. Follow the recipe exactly (I don't recommend cooking with vegetables) and you won't be disappointed. If you're like me and you have problems getting gravy to thicken, this recipe will be your best friend because the gravy is made for you, no fuss. I don't even eat meat anymore, but I remember this recipe fondly.

HOLY DOODLES! I have to say--I am not a meat eater by choice, I seldom "enjoy" the taste of meat, I eat it only for the health benefits. Last night I consumed roast because IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, flavorful and moist! 100% the best meat dish I have ever prepared! Used a hip roast, approximately 3 pounds. It was frozen so left it in the fridge overnight and prepared it late the next morning. Floured/peppered it, quickly seared it on all sides, then dropped it into the slowcooker. Combined one can of mushroom soup, one onion soup packet. To that added a generous pinch of red pepper flakes, fresh ground pepper, some italian seasoning and two cloves of garlic and half a can of water. Spooned the soup mixture over roast. At noon it was turned on LOW. Off to town, returning at six o'clock. Wow, the house smelled amazing. Quartered some small potatoes (peels on) and half an onion, threw that into the 'gravy' alongside the roast, with a big handful of baby carrots. Turned the slowcooker to HIGH. Meanwhile prepared some yorkshire puddings. At seven o'clock (one hour for the veggies to cook) I served up a delectable, economical, too simple to be believable dinner that I would be proud to serve to company. My husband RAVED about it, said it was awesome. He asked for roast beef sandwiches for lunch, I can't wait for them either! My freezer will always have an extra roast in it just for this recipe. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this great idea!!

I've made this twice, and it is perfect every time. The meat falls is so tender, it falls apart. Very good and very easy.

This was very good. Followed the suggestions to add golden mushroom soup, wine and also browned the roast in butter before placing in the crock pot. This was very delicious!

I have made this pot roast several times and I think my favorite is with these changes: Sub 1 can of mushroom soup with cream of celery. Sub the water with guinness or any dark beer. I always cook this on high for at least 6 hours (never low, because it's more tender). I don't bother to trim any fat off of the beef, I just spoon it off the surfact before I serve. No need to brown to meat to "seal in the juices". You're cooking it all day in liquid! It comes out great every time. My family loves it!
