I love grilled cheese sandwiches, it reminds me of being a kid. I used shredded cheddar and shredded swiss and left the sandwich open first to melt the cheese for about three minutes(because I used a lot) and then cooked both sides. I used whole wheat bread because that is the only bread I eat. It was great!

The entire family loved these. Used thick whole wheat bread, buttered only the crusts and used cream cheese on one side as another reviewer suggested. Cooked at 375 for five minutes on each side and they were perfect. Not greasy, not burnt, just absolutely perfect.

Simply the best grilled cheese I ever had. Bread was crisp, cheese melted perfectly, used much less butter. This will be the way I make "grilled" cheese from now on.

I was so happy with how these turned out! I love grilled cheese sandwiches, but making them (especially if you're doing more than one) can be such a pain. These turned out so crispy and not greasy at all. I will be making my grilled cheese sandwiches this way from now on. Thank you!

Thanks for the great idea! I don't know why I never thought of it. I'll never make grilled cheese on the stove again. It came out perfectly even, which it never does on the stove, the cheese was melted perfectly and it was much less greasy. I added bacon to mine. Also, 5 min. per side in a 400 degree oven was perfect. Thanks again!

I can't say that I ever thought I'd be reviewing a grilled cheese sandwich, especially since I've been making them for 40 years, but I couldn't help myself. I never baked a grilled cheese in the oven before, but it turned out better than when I cook it on the stove! Very crispy! I spritzed with Olive oil instead of butter, and added some deli turkey. Crispy and delicious!

I make my "grilled cheese" sandwiches like this all the time. I don't usually use butter though, just to save some calories. It is nice to add some extra flavor, but the bread gets crispy enough (for me) without it. Try adding fresh tomatoes in the summer, or some thinly sliced deli meat if you have it around.

This is a really great way to make grilled cheese sandwiches! I must say I enjoyed the crust on these sandwiches alot more than I would other sandwiches. I think I put a little too much butter on my bread though cause it was a bit oily but it was still so yummy. Definitely making these again!

This is the only way I make grilled cheese. This is how they made it when I was in school. I usually have to make 10 sandwiches at a time and this cuts the time in half! It's really, really tasty!! Try it, you'll never make them in a pan again!

Used American instead of cheddar. Simple to prepare, nice when you have a big group of kids (or adults) to feed at one time.

I thought to myself why would you need to post a recipe for grilled cheese but what a great idea to be able to cook a few sandwiches at the same time. These come out the same if not better than when you cook it in a skillet or a griddle. The edges come out crispier. Really good !!!

Why did I never think of making them this way?? This recipe is awesome. It let me make grilled cheese sandwiches for all the kids at the same time. No more taking turns doing a couple at a time in the skillet. Thanks for the new method!

Mmmm - melty!! I've never had such a great grilled cheese sandwich, and it couldn't be easier! I like the idea that I can make many at once, too. I cooked mine at 400 degrees for 5 minutes, then turned it, and then cooked it for 4 more minutes. That was brown enough for my persoal tastes, and the cheese was so melted! Yum!

What a great idea! The cheese sandwiches taste just like those grilled in a pan, but are much easier to make, especially on busy nights. We vary the types of cheese and bread depending on what we have in the house, but you can't go wrong with gooey melted cheese and the crunchy, buttery toast! We make this recipe at least every few weeks.
