This chili was delicious. A different twist to chili - I first tried it at a summer bbq and it was great... a year round chili! Thanks!

This is by far the absolute BEST chili I have ever had. The only suggestion I have is to double the recipe if serving more than 4 hungry people. It was so good everyone wanted more and I was all out. DELICIOUS!

Excellent recipe! I made this last night, and only strayed as follows: added 1/3 cup white wine, used half Heinz 57/half Lea & Perrins steak sauce, and microwaved the bacon. End result was winning the office chili cookoff among 8 other contestants. Thanks, Jennifer!

First the changes I made: 1 pound hamburger, 3 slices bacon, used 4 teaspoons chili powder plus some other spices (I've never seen chili seasoning packages here), and a bit more tomatoes. That was mostly to thin this down and make it a bit healthier with less meat. That said, everyone enjoyed it and you could really taste the flavours. The big slices of carrot added a nice crunch that isn't in the family chili recipe, and you could certainly notice the steak sauce and the bacon. This also cooks much faster than my usual chili - you can cook it in 45 minutes for sure - and it will still taste good. I reccomend trying this, it may not be what you want but it sure is a nice change & not too difficult.

It was very tasty - very thick - I did add a couple of can of tomato sauce to thin it done. I liked the bacon in it for favor. I used it for my weekly soup group and it was a hit.

We scaled this recipe to make 40 servings for a church youth retreat in the mountains. We received many compliments. We will definitely make it again.

This was a hit in my family We are not big chili lovers, but the flavors in this chiuli blended nicely spicy and w/ good flavor, but not too hot. I doubled the recipe using 3 cans of beans instead of 2 and used 2 pkg of chili seasoning 1 hot and 1 texas flavored otherwise pretty much used the recipe as stated The white wine adds a bit of a difference I used chardonnay Am making again today by request Thanks Jennifer

My husband, who's a big chili-lover, loves this recipe. It tastes great over rice, noodles, inside a bread-bowl, and by itself! I added cheddar cheese, extra cilantro, and raw chopped white onions on the top. It makes for great presentation and makes it taste even better.

After 10 years of making my own chili, I decided to try something new. I was a little nervous at first. Well, well, well! This chili was FANTASTIC! I did have to make a few small changes to suit our needs. Here they go ~ I didn't add the carrots or celery and I used 1 yellow pepper instead of green and red. I also added a small can of tomato sauce and a small can of diced petite tomatoes. Oh, and some garlic too! After cooking on the stove-top, I transferred to the crockpot and have let it cook on low all day. That way my husband could watch football on this cold snowy day and enjoy the chili whenever he wanted! Thanks, Jennifer, for such a GREAT recipe! :o)

I didn't really find this chili to be "award winning". If I'm going to go through the trouble of preparing a meal, I want it to taste better than if I had just opened a can. It didn't have a flavor that set it apart from the rest, but it was good.

Pretty good, especially if you prefer more meat than beans. I liked the addition of vegetables. I probably won't make it again - I have a chili recipe I prefer - but would recommend giving it a try.

Okay. Made this for dinner last night and it was excellent! I did do some modifications, but who doesnt?? I did not have any white wine, so I dont think that I missed it. I used ground Turkey instead of beef, and could I tell the difference? Nope. I did not add the celery or the carrots. Oh, and I did add some crushed garlic and one jalapeno. I did put shredded cheese and some cilantro on top and it was soo good. I will make again in the future for sure!

I'd only eaten chili twice before making this (yes, I'm wierd). I've made it three times already! It's absolutely delicious. I do add about 3 cups total of beef bouillion, which helps with the thickness and also seems to blend the flavors. My husband and I don't care for red peppers, so we leave it out; and using a bottle of bacon bits can save time if needed. I'd warned my husband that it wasn't too hot, and offered to spice it up. He found it unnecessary and realized it was "flavorful and complex" that he was after, not actually "hot". And this recipe has it to spare!

great chili! has a unique, sweet yet spicy flavor... however i did modify the recipe a bit (made for 16 servings), substituting one can of kidney beans with one can of great northern beans, 1 1/2 cubed zucchini in place of the celery, one can of beef broth and two bottles of beer. i also added 4 pinches of crushed red pepper flakes instead of 2, and used 15 pieces of bacon instead of 10. all in all it tasted excellent! best chili i have ever had, the beer took a little edge off the sweetness and complemented it perfectly. i will definitely make this again!

Excellent chili! I like it best with the bacon, but the bacon can be left out and it still makes a great chili. I thought having a lot of veggies in it was going to make it taste diluted or take away from the chili taste, but it's very good with the vegetables and still tastes hearty and satisfying and like chili should. I plan on using this recipe in the future!

Well this is another one that I liked. I made this at the Chili cook off at work and won 1st place. Thanks a lot that meant I had to host the following Annual Chili Cook Off. I did not add the carrots and put in a bayleaf. GOOD STUFF!!!
