Avocados and fresh corn from the cob cohabitate with red pepper flakes, red wine, spices, herbs, and vinegar in this sassy salsa. Try it as a side dish with grilled chicken, or eat it plain with tortilla chips.

'Tartine' is the French word for a slice of bread with a topping. Spread herbed goat cheese on crusty bread and broil. Toss together beets, avocadoes and greens for an usual, beautiful meal that combines warm with cool, bitter with sweet, and creamy with crisp.

Crunchy toasted pecans and slices of creamy avocado add to the variety of textures and tastes in this interesting mixture. The salad is a lovely complement to my pork roast but is also delicious with many other meals. -Pat Stevens, Granbury, Texas

Wow your guests with a delightful flavor combination they've probably never tried! It's especially refreshing in warm weather and when you can get fresh avocados and watermelon. It's also quite simple and fast to make, as it calls for just 4 ingredients.

My husband never liked yams until I served them to him this way. The yams create their own glaze on the grill. You can add more herbs and spices to suit your own taste.
