"The crumb topping gives this apple tart a delightfully sweet crunch in every bite. I like to make it year-round, but it's especially good in fall when fresh apples are at their best. --Janet Briggs"

DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Combine egg and milk; gradually add to flour mixture, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball.
With lightly floured hands, press dough onto the bottom and up the sides of a 12-in. fluted tart pan with removable bottom. Arrange apple slices in a circular pattern over dough, starting at the outer edge and overlapping slices.
For topping, combine the sugar, flour and spices in a small bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Bake at 350 degrees F for 50-60 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve warm or cold.

This apple tart was very delicious! I loved the arrangement of apples and the topping tasted fantastic! The only thing I didn't really like was that the crust got a little overdone and tasted kind of like a crunchy biscuit. I personally added a little lemon juice to the apples (to keep them fresher and give it a little zing!) and used brown sugar in the topping instead of white.

This is GREAT! It is very easy to make and tastes so good. I made it with some extra topping because it is so good, and I love the cinnamon. I even used margarine because I didn't have butter on hand, and it still was great. A really good recipe, and I will definitely make it again!

This was okay. I made a similar recipe years ago from one of my grandma's cook books...it was amazing! I thought this looked close enough. It wasn't quite the same. I followed the suggestions of others and doubled the topping. That was a good suggestion. The filling was a little bland. Next time I think I'll mix in a little lemon juice, cinnamon and brown sugar. It wasn't really a bad apple desert...it just wasn't fantastic. I'll put it in my recipe box until I find something better.....

I've made this tart 4 or 5 times for my family, a work function, and a friend's potluck. Each time I get rave reviews and the tart is devoured in no time. I find that 6 apples is way too many. I only end up needing 2 or three depending on the size. This is a very quick and easy recipe that impresses everyone.

Beautiful tart, I only got to taste a sliver at the function I brought it to so I really need to make it again to see if I like the taste of the tart.

Good pastry, can be rolled out on lightly floured board. Let rest in tart pan while preparing filling & topping, made 2x topping for 12 in tart pan. This is a keeper!

I have used this recipe many times, and I always get rave reviews! In fact, my family don't let me use another apple dessert recipe at all!
