Aunt Mary's Layered Salad

"This salad is a must have at all of our holiday gatherings. The whole family rates layered salad as their favorite dish on the holidays! Enjoy!"

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound bacon
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce - rinsed, dried, and chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 head cauliflower, chopped
  • 16 ounces shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 (32 ounce) jar mayonnaise
  • 1 (16 ounce) package frozen green peas

DIRECTIONS

  1. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside.
  2. In a large serving bowl place a thin layer of 1/2 of the listed ingredients. Begin with the lettuce followed by onion, cauliflower, cheese, bacon and peas. Repeat.
  3. Top the salad with mayonnaise and garnish with a sprinkle of crumbled bacon.

Very fattening, yes, but very good.

A definate winner, everyone loved it and said it was the best salad they had ever had. Just watch how much you eat the fat content is HIGH

i sometimes use shredded carrots and broccoli. I also use green onions. This is my Aunt Mary's traditional holiday salad, you can't go wrong with this one. Put it in a trifle bowl, looks great.
