Solid recipe, will make again. Change the canned mushrooms for fresh ones of course, cut out the carrots, and make sure the BBQ sauce you use isn't too sweet; I think this is the reason some people are complaining about the sweetness of this. (Just check the label of your sauce and be certain sugar/ gluctose isn't the #1 ingredient) Also, for my purposes, I like things spicy and added another jalapeno, but even that didn't make it too spicy to eat for my other friends. I think I'd go up to four or even five if you're a true lover of spicy chili.

This chili was amazing - I loved the baked beans and barbecue sauce. I added shredded chicken instead of beef, very good. It's a little too sweet to eat often though.

I made this chili after I found it in the Allrecipes.com Slowcooker/Casserole cookbook. I have to say I was disappointed, and embarassed for having served it to some guests. I made the recipe exactly as printed, and it was unappealing. The flavor starts too sweet and "tomatoey" from the sugar and tomato paste. It definitely needs some cumin to actually taste like chili! The carrots make it taste more like a beef stew, as one of my guests put it It was so think, I could easily have served it on a plate with a fork. This recipe would probably be more appropriately used without the ground beef as a sweet/tangy/spicy BBQ sauce for grilling.

Was ok, but only used one jalapeno pepper, did not use any hot sauce, no carrots as suggested, and used bulls eye honey hickey BBQ sauce (which I do not recommend..too sweet this is what ruined it) Will try a regular BBQ sauce the next time..

Yum! I couldn't believe how good this was. I did have to tweak it, however. After I had everything mixed together I tasted it and it just didn't seem spicy enough for us, so I added a bit of cumin and a dash of salt and pepper. I also put in about a tablespoon of Montreal Steak Seasoning. This made it near perfect to me! We topped it with Colby Jack cheese and crackers. The only thing I would change next time is to forget the carrots. I thought I'd give them a try even after reading previous reviews, but the others are right.. the carrots just don't seem to mesh well with the rest of the recipe. This one is still a keeper, though!

This is good chili. Like some others I left out the carrots because they just don't belong in chili, unless of course it is a vegetarian one. I used 1 Tbsp. of pepper flakes and found it just right for me. I would suggest 1 tsp. to anyone trying this for the first time. Definitely add the BBQ sauce, it can vary the flavor depending on the one used. I used Bulls-eye 'Old West Hickory' which gave the chili just a hint of smoked hickory flavor. Of course you have to use Molsen 'Canadian' beer. Great comfort food, great chili, give it a try.

The best chili I've ever had, I've re-worked it to make it hotter and left out carrots, its actually expected at all my get togethers! I'm going to try it with round steak next time!

This recipe appealed to me right away because it included mushrooms,a favorite of mine. I also always make chili recipes without any chili powder or cumin,as my husband doesn't care for it & add it separately in "my batch". As I was mixing the ingredients,I was surprised to find it included no chili powder and the results are flavorful & great! Just the right heat for our tastes, too. I get many requests and my picky mate even says I should compete in a Chili Cookoff, which are common, serious events here in Arizona. This is only red chili recipe in my many files!

This was a very good recipe. I was a little nervous making this as it was the first use of our new slow cooker. I made some substitutions and ommisions. I removed the mushrooms altogether and substitued mixed beans for the baked beans. It turned out really well. We found this recipe to be a little hot and I think the next time I will avoid the jalapeno peppers altogether.

This was okay chili. I didn't like the taste that the bbq sauce added and ended up having to season it to my taste, but it was a good guideline for making my own version.

This recipe was very sweet, and instead of having a soupy and thick consistency, it was creamy. Not very good overall.

Great chili - but we only used 1 tsp of crushed red peppers instead of all the tbsps and it was great, wouldn't have wanted it any hotter...from another canuck

Consider the "atomic" part of the name of this recipe fair warning. I used only about 1 tsp. of crushed red pepper instead of 1 tbsp. and it was still way too spicy for us. I think this would have been good but I would say hold off on the crushed red pepper until it's done and then adjust it to your liking. I loved all the vegetables in it and I may very well try it again without the crushed red pepper.

This is a great recipe for a cold day. It has an amazing range of flavors and textures that all blend into an amazing finsihed chili. I found that it was even better the second day.
