Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup chopped raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the shortening, brown sugar, applesauce and egg until smooth, Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves; stir into the applesauce mixture. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
