I made this super easy cake and everyone really enjoyed it with a cup of hot tea. Good little cake that's made of wholesome ingredients (I did reduce the sugar and add a bit of splenda). I did not ice it in order to keep the fat and sugar content down; it was still tasty and I would make this again.

Haven't tasted it yet, but adult son says it's really good. Smells wonderful! Didn't ice this, and I cut brown sugar to 1/2 cup, added 1/2 cup of raisins, which provides a natural sweetness, and 1/2 tsp allspice. Also used butter. Thanks! **UPDATE: Love the denseness! Great spice cake and would be great with cream cheese or vanilla frosting. I just sprinkled powdered sugar and topped with whipped cream -- less sugar, was my purpose.

I needed to use up some applesauce that was getting old in the pantry, so I selected this recipe. I made it in a 9” springform pan, which worked out well. Rather than the confectioners’ sugar frosting, I glazed mine with the topping from Caramel Apple Cake, also from this site. I thought the finished cake really lacked pizzaz, although the caramel topping helped. If I were to make this again, I’d definitely add some nuts to the batter and maybe a few on top for some added crunch.

This is a wonderful recipe. I used my own apple sauce and had to add a little water(my apple sauce is quite thick and chunky). It baked up beautifully and my husband had seconds for dessert! Will definately make this again!!

Sweet dense snack cake. Works well without modification at high altitude (Denver). It was wonderful without frosting.

Loved the smell and flavor of the ingredients. I used homemade applesauce that I had made earlier in the week. Also used the cream cheese II recipe as suggested. I found the cake to be easy to make but was not as happy about how dense and heavy the cake was. Very thick n heavy, but again good flavor.

What a great cake! I used a little less sugar, butter instead of shortening, half whole wheat flour and didn't frost it. My kids are loving it and I feel pretty good about serving it to them! I'll be making this one again and when I do I'll double it.

This a review for the cake...(I used Cream Cheese II frosting + 1 1/2 teaspoons apple pie spice to frost). This was a very good cake, easy and moist! I did add 3/4 cup of raisins (soaked in hot water for 10 minutes 1st and then drained), but this cake is great without; I will definitely make this again! I like that it is a "small" cake so we don't have so much sitting around waiting to be eaten up :)
