The dough was not stiff but crumbly and not very easy to handle. Also I found that the vanilla should have been mixed in with the base dough instead of the nut topping. I will not be using this recipe again.

This recipe was very tasty. I found that the bars did not hold their form and were quite sticky. I used margarine instead of shortning and I used fresh golden delicious apples from an orchard. Maybe using shortning and a firmer apple would help next time. The taste of the bar was great though!
