This recipe was great with all of the recommendations people gave! I added 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg and cinnamon and it made them so much better. I also didn't have light brown sugar but i think the dark brown sugar was so much better because it tasted like molasses. instead of 1 cup of white sugar i did 3/4 cup of white and 1/4 cup dark brown. I also added an extra 1/2cup of apple and left the apple pieces big enough so they didn't get lost in the batter. There was a perfect amount for 12 cupcakes too. These were amazing but i gave it four stars because i made a few changes.

Excellent recipe! Really yummy, easy, comparatively healthy if you consider each muffin (24) contains just over 1 tsp sugar & 1 tsp butter. The reviews have to consider the differences in apples: moisture and sweetness and taste. I used baking apples from our trees. These had been pre-cooked with a little cinnamon and frozen. So I measured exactly 1-1/2 cups thawed. I also added a dash of nutmeg to the batter. Followed suggestion of 1/2 c brown sugar, 1/2 c white sugar. I got 24 muffins, exactly the size of reg muffin cups (no muffin tops). The recipe was EASY to make. Put the butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and apples in a food processor. Pulse. Add dry ingredients. Scoop into paper-lined muffin cups, use the food processor to mix toppings into fine crumbs. The topping was exactly the right amount for 24 small muffins. You can reduce amount of butter by using 50% unsweetened applesauce, pears or bananas. I've tried these with Graham flour (fantastic!) and oat flour.

There is nothing healthy about these muffins! I tried them even though I knew they were not healthy from the recipe because of all the great reveiws. They are so sweet, all I could taste was sugar. I did use some review hints, such as using 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar, adding 1/2 tsp of cinnamin and 1/8 tsp of nutmeg. I meant to add oats to the topping as one review suggested and forgot. THey wre very time consuming to make. The topping was nice a crunchy the first day, but after storing them overnight, they became soggy and wet on top. I will look for a healthier alternative since I am eating for 2 and have two small boys that eat them!

These are delicious - especially the batter! I only give it four stars though because the cake part could have been a little more flavorful, but with the apples it's still really good. I doubled the amount of apples and graded half of then and chopped half too.

Very nice! I did end up adding some extra cinnamon to the batter itself for a bit more flavour; and did end up grating about 2/3s of the apple to more evenly incorperate it and the flavour (which isn't overpowering at all, could even use a bit mroe or some apple sauce if one chose to do so) through the batter. The batter is quite thick; but the muffins come up wonderfully; quite light and moist, and the crumble topping (which I put some rolled oats into as well) was divine. Easy to make; even with the kids; and was a hit with everybody; will absolutely make this again..

This recipe as written is 3-4 stars, but I ended up changing a few things like other reviewers. I added cinnamon, nutmeg, used 1/2 brown sugar, 1/2 white sugar, reduced butter, and added applesauce. Used 2 apples, 1 shredded and the other finely chopped. Put part of the strudel in the middle of the muffin, and the rest on top. They came out really moist and pretty! The revised muffins are definitely 5 stars.

Moist and flavourful. I used 100% whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour as well as added a bit of cinnamon to the flour mixture before mixing. Above-average, definitely.

Wonderful! The batter is sweet enough to still be a muffin, but the cinnamon struesel topping adds just a little extra dessert-y feel. I DID add some cinnamon to the batter too, just to make sure the muffin and its topping go well together. I love them. Thanks for the great recipe!

I think this is a great base recipe that you can adjust to your taste. I read the reviews and added additional spices to the batter, grated apple, added 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt plus added oats to the topping. These were GREAT!!!!

I made these as written and they were okay, though fairly dry. Perhaps next time doubling the apples would help.

YUM! YUM! YUM! YUM! YUM! These turned out amazing following the recipe... and though I was doubtful adding 2 full apples (the second time in one week) kicked this recipe up into nirvana! My boyfriend was even prompted to comment enthusiastically!!! My neibors keep knocking on my door, suddenly I'm pretty popular in my apartment building. (and I dont even cook.)

This recipe would have no flavor if prepared as written. Like other reviewers, I added cinnamon and nutmeg. Next time I'll chop the apples more finely as I didn't really care for the apple chunks. I forgot the tip about using 1/2 brown & 1/2 white sugar, and my muffins seemed to have something missing. Next time I'll definately follow that tip. These definately have potential, though.

I've made these about twice now, and each time they come out perfect! i do recommend that you add about a tablespoon of ground cimmomon before you add the apples and stir it in. Also, I find it works best when you cube the apples, then slice them into thin pieces so they're only about an inch long.

My muffins came out delicious (if a little weird-looking), but ONLY after following suggestions from other reviewers. The original submitted recipe is a great idea, but is really only an average recipe as written. Thanks!

This was good, but I didn't expect it to be a little dry and tasteless. So I will make it again, but with a few changes like adding some spice and finding a way to make 'em moister.
