Very good, but they could be improved with more apples, like other reviewers have suggested. A LOT more apples. Next time I'll more than double the amount. I skipped the sugar on top iced them with old fashioned caramel icing. Then I garnished with pecans and called them caramel apple squares for a bake sale. They were a hit.

These are absolutely delicious. A few minor suggestions. Add plenty of extra apples. I at least double what the recipe calls for. If you want to double the recipe for 9x13 pan, don't double the topping cinnamon and sugar. There's plenty with 2 T sugar and 2 t cinnamon. Made these yesterday for the 2nd time and my hubby has eaten 3/4 of the pan already. They are so easy and good.

The 1st time I made this I used an 8" square pan. They turned out 'gushy' but we ate them warm with vanilla ice cream. The second time in a 9" pan I only used 1/2 the cinnamon sugar topping, because it seemed too much. They were great, very tasty and good texture. I decided to try them a 3rd time with the full amount of topping so I could fairly review this recipe. They turned out very well, but I don't think that there was any benefit to the additional cinnamon sugar. This recipe makes a square with the texture like a brownie. Adding more apples would change that. Also, if you double the recipe , it should be baked in a 10"x15" pan rather than a 9"x13" as it's closer in square inches. I just made my double batch in 2- 9" square pans. They were a big hit. I used a Granny Smith apple.

These were WAY better than I expected. I love it when that happens. I omitted the nuts and added a little more cinnamon to the dough. I also added about a cup of apples. These are so tasty and festive in the fall. I'm going to make them again tomorrow. I think I'll experiment with different toppings. This will be a regular this time of year. Update: I made these again. I made my apple chunks bigger this time and I liked it that way. I also topped this with powdered sugar instead of the sugar/cinnamon mixture and I thought that was better.

The apple squares were a hit in my family. Instead of adding only 1/2 cup of apples I added 1 1/2 cups of apples. It made the squares really moist.

These are really great. Do double the recipe though or you'll end up with too few squares..

These were great. I took them to work and within 15 minutes the pan was gone (and there are only about 10 people in the office). I doubled the recipe & put in 9x13 pan (they got about an inch thick). Also, took advice of others and doubled apples (2 cups) and left the topping at the original amount. It is a stiff dough so it was tough to mix the apples in so I might try mixing them in before the flour mixture the next time. I did drizzle on a powdered sugar glaze just to gussy them up a bit. Would also be great served warm with ice cream or made with rhubarb instead (have to try that in the spring). I'll definitely be making these again in the next day or so. Thanks!

Great recipe - but way too much sugar. I cut the sugar in half. 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of white sugar. The modification in sugar was perfect. It's the perfect sweetness and not over powering at all. You can really taste the apples. I will definetely make again and will be bringing this recipe to my cookie exchange in November.

We picked about 25 pounds of apples this weekend at a friends house so I've been working apples for 2 days. I tried this recipe to try to do a variety of different things with them. Like another poster I tripled the recipe and took it out before it looked quite done. I find the texture a bit dry and the taste a bit bland. I was concerned I'd had too many apples and it would be mushy but that wasn't the case at all. I used an apple peeler/corer/slicer device then put the apples through my food processor to chop to get them well disbursed but it didn't seem to help.

very yummy, especially with vanilla ice cream. I doubled the recipe except the topping as others mentioned and put it in a 9x13 in. dish. These had the consistency of cake and I'm not sure if they are supposed to or not, but they were nice and moist.

These tasted alright, but they were too doughy. They fell apart easily and weren't what I would call a bar. They're more like a doughy pastry or something. Probably won't make these again. Very sugary.

This was great. I doubled the recipe and it was still gone in a flash. I added more apples (almost double). Make sure you watch the time close because you do not want to over bake it. I like it best a little warm (just pop in the microwave for a few seconds) with a little vanilla icecream or cool-whip on top. My kids and I are making it again today and I bet it is gone by dinner.

My husband loves these. LOVE. I add extra apples because I want them to at least be a little "healthier" since he wants them so often. I find them too sweet but that's ok. It's a good portion control method :)

These are tasty!!! I baked for 33 minutes and I used 1 cup of chopped apples. They are super moist and flavorful. However, I had a hard time cutting them into squares...they fell apart. Next time, I will serve this out of the pan like a cobbler with vanilla ice cream. This one is a keeper!
