made it last night-so quick and easy to prepare. hardest part was chopping the apples. doubled to 1 c (two small apples) and omitted the nuts and topping. had addictive crust on top and soft and chewy inside. definitely making again!

I doubled the apples. Perhaps that was too much, bars fell apart. I halved the cinnamon/sugar topping - still too much. My coworkers really liked them, but I wasn't impressed. Even with all the apples these were still lacking in flavor. I do reccomend throwing them in the freezer for 10 - 20 minutes before attempting to cut them.

Delish, but better with a glaze. and a little tempermental. Can go from moist to gooey, depending on apples, weather, who knows? anyway, the topping and a good glaze can cover a myriad of sins. I beat 1 Tbl lemon juice, 1 tsp cream cheese and 1/2 cup powdered sugar with milk to drizzle over the cut bars. just the right counterpoint to a pretty conventional recipe.

These are FABULOUS! I've made them at least a dozen times this year and I have been asked for the recipe over and over. You would think this recipe would call for a lot of apples given the flavor, but I was surprised at how little apple is actually in there. Don't make my mistake and try to add too much more apple because then the squares are too wet and never really set up well. Still delicious that way, but ended up needing to be eaten with a spoon and vanilla ice cream!

I didn't expect this to be so cake-like; however, it is extremely good! My friend didn't want to try it because she doesn't like walnuts (nor do I!) but after convincing her to try it she thought it was delicious as well! The only thing I would suggest (if you like desserts to be sweet) is to melt frosting and drizzle it on top. I had the leftover cinnamon stick dip from Pizza Hut and used that as the topping and it really made the difference!

I've made these twice in the last couple weeks. They are so yummy! Hubby and I eat them up within two days. The first time I used half whole wheat flour and half white, and the second time all whole wheat flour. It still tastes delicious and its just a bit healthier. I also use 1 large apple, not just a half cup. I'll definitely make this over and over!

this was a simple (yes, even with the ingredient list that looks long) recipe that came out moist, spicy and delicious. i increased the amount of apples (i may play with the recipe a little more to up the apples and lower the sugars) and doubled the cinnamon. it's a winner.

This recipe was great. It wasn't spectacular, but it was very nice. I think next time, I will triple the amount of apples and double the amount of nuts. Because people said that this was too sugary, I did not add sugar to the top and I left out a little bit of the white sugar. However, I did not find the squares sugary at all. In fact, next time, I think I will follow the recipe exactly. The cooking time and ingredient amounts were perfect. Thanks for the recipe. I will definitely try it again, but will double the recipe next time.

I gave the recipe 4 stars because i've fixed it twice and the dish is MUCH better with ALOT more apples. I used about 2 cups. Soo yummy. I also upped the sugar a bit..and cinnamon! But overall GREAT RECIPE!!!

I added two whole Granny Smith apples diced with my food processor (2.5 - 3 cups in the end) and halved the sugar. I think there is too much topping and might skip it the next time I make it. I've made it twice now and the 2nd time I used applesauce instead of butter and half whole-wheat flour. I thought it was great! It is more like an apple snack cake, chewy and moist. Good for breakfast too.

I bought a bag of red delicious apples a week ago and most of them have been mushy so no one is eating them. I was a little worried about using an apple that no one will eat in a baked dish but I figured this was a small recipe, so no big loss if it didn't turn out, right? Well, this was wonderful! I followed the recipe as written, except maybe more apple. I used one and a half smallish apples. I love this recipe for the easy and speedy preparation, the fact that I always have these ingredients on hand, and the small quantity it makes so that I don't have a huge pan of dessert sitting around begging to be eaten. Great go to recipe for those chilly fall days when I need something sweet and satisfying.

Alterations: used half whole wheat/regular flour, half of the sugar(both brown & white), two cups of chopped apples instead of .5 cups. Smelled amazin' as it was bakin'! I would definitely recommend using 1/2 of the sugar/cinnamon mixture--recipe calls for way too much sugar here as well. Next time I'll definitely be cutting it down & maybe using all whole wheat flour. Twas my first time using whole wheat & I must say it's not bad at all. Also, baked 'em for 35 minutes.

These were very good, but dry. I doubled the recipe and maybe didn't have enough apple in it. My son took them in his lunch for several days. My toddlers loved them too.

These always disappear! I follow the recipe without nut or raisins cause that's what the family likes, but add a little bit more appple. Then a little drizzle of caramel frosting! Sooo yummy

I was disappointed in this recipe. If you like a snack cake dessert you will like this but I was looking for something more like a dessert bar. Flavor was just ok. Very easy to make. I did add a whole apple.

I tried these and they were wonderful and easy. I rated it 4 stars because I cut the sugar/cinnamon topping in half, didn't use it all, and still found it too sweet. That's just a matter of taste though. I'll just cut back more next time. Great Recipe....thanks!
