I doubled the recipe and baked it in a 9x13 cake pan. It’s an easy way to use up apples, the sugar and cinnamon topping was a little over powering. I followed the recipe, but next time I will cut back on the topping. They are more like a cake than bars, would be good with a whipped topping!

These were very yummy, but were definitely cake-like and I was expecting a bar. Overall still worth it

I made this today with some tweaks to the recipe. I used 1/4 c white sugar, 3/4 tsp cinnamon, and sliced one fuji apple thinly and layered it on top of the batter. I then sprinkled a mix of brown sugar, cinnamon, flour and butter over the top of the apples. Baked it for exactly 30 minutes and it was perfect! The center was moist but not mushy and it wasn't overly sweet. Soooo Good...I'll definitely make these again very soon.

We have alot of apples on our tree and I was trying to find a good recipe - this is it. I doubled the recipe and baked in 9x13 pan. Turned out great. Husband loved them.

I made these after getting a little ambitious about my baking with apples & purchased near 20 lbs. of apples from my local orchard. These are delightful! I changed a few things and added some other's suggestions- I subbed pecans for walnuts (just as tasty), used the cinnamon/sugar topping and made a butterscotch reduction (as suggested above) with 2 T. each of brown sugar, cream, butter, and what teeny bit of vanilla extract I had left. They came out great- gooey/cakey with the crunchy sugar topping & gooey butterscotch/caramel on top- they are not overly sweet, which is also nice. These would make a nice light dessert or go wonderfully paired with coffee in the morning.

Delicious! I followed the advice of others and left of the majority of the sugar/cinnamon topping, and it was so good I'm making another batch while the first is cooling. Yummy.

I was looking for a recipe that would only take one or two apples, and didn't make a large amount, so this seemed promising, especially since we love apple cake. But we thought it was WAY too sweet with the sugar/cinnamon mixture on top. It might be OK if that were left off entirely, or if you only use a light sprinkle of it.

These are delicious! Great afternoon snack with tea or coffee and the kids love them! I used half whole wheat flour and half all purpose. I also used a little less butter than the recipe called for (because I ran out) so I substituted a little canola oil. Turned out perfect. I didn't use the topping in this recipe because I had some left over from the "to die for blueberry muffins" recipe from this site. I saved it in the freezer for a recipe just like this.

Wow! I followed this recipe exactly--amazing! So easy and delicious. The only thing I would change is to do about 1/2 the amt. it calls for of cinnamon sugar...the topping was a little too sweet for my taste. But excellent texture and flavor. Will definitely be keeping this recipe.

DELICIOUS!!!! I added a 1/2 cup more apples (granny smith) for a total of 1 cup. Other than that followed recipe exactly. The only thing I will do different next time is double the recipe because these didnt last long at all :)

Awesome. I left out the walnuts (personal preference) and increased the apple to 1 c. I only wish I had doubled the recipe.

These were really good. I used unsweetened applesauce instead of butter and whole wheat flour instead of regular. I also used agave nectar in place of the white sugar and some of the brown. And I added some oats. The result was a cakelike bar that is very healthy too!

My husband liked them I did not. Maybe I didnt cook them all the way or what. But i followed the directions to the T and if I left them in there any longer the outside would have burnt. Outside was okay but not great. Inside was a bit too mushy for my taste.

Thank you thank you thank you for this recipe! I used pecans instead of walnuts, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. It went together very quickly and the squares are delicious.

This was delish! I suggest doubling the whole recipe except for the topping in the same size pan and adding more apples. I didn't use nuts and it turned out real moist, which is good if you usually like your baked goods moist. This is one recipe my family couldn't keep their fingers out of (:
