I've made this pie twice now - once for family and once for a dinner party. I followed the recipe exactly both times using 7 apples - 3 granny smith and 4 fuji. Excellent recipe!

A nice pie. Could cut down on the amount of flour with the filling, as it was a little pasty. May double the praline topping next time, as it didn't quite cover the top of the pie.

My husband loved it, I thought it was just okay. I guess I was expecting a lot more "praline flavor" but it came out tasting like a plain apple pie.

I was disappointed in this pie. I followed the instructions exactly. but the apples were not as cooked as I would have liked and the flavor was just OK.

Bev - You should use Jonathan apples, since the original variety was developed by a Higley! Rachel Higley brought seeds from Connecticut to the wilds of Ohio and cultivated the variety in the very early 1800s, and named it after her husband Jonathan.

This recipe is outstanding! I used to make one similar and los the recipe but I think this one is better. The apple cider really adds to the flavor. I made it for Thanksgiving and people have been begging for more.
