Apple Pie in a Jar Drink

SUBMITTED BY: Narla

"This tastes just like apple pie! Great in the Autumn around a campfire or on a hay-ride. Put it in canning jars with rings and lids for that down home country appeal."

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • 2 quarts apple juice
  • 6 (3 inch) cinnamon sticks
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 (750 milliliter) bottle 190 proof grain alcohol (such as Everclear™)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Place the apple cider, apple juice, cinnamon sticks, and sugar into a large pot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat, and discard the cinnamon sticks. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, then stir in the grain alcohol. Pour into quart-size canning jars, seal with the lids and rings, and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Cook's Note

You can store this in the refrigerator for at least 6 months. I've heard of people storing it for a year or more.

I don't know why they changed it but, here is the recipe I sent in. Who knows maybe theirs is better? NARLA "Hot Apple Pie In A Jar" 1 Gallon Apple Cider 1 Gallon Apple Juice 1 Liter Ever Clear 6 Cinnamon Sticks 1- 2 Cups of Sugar (TO TASTE. It can get pretty sweet so, test it before adding all of the sugar.) I cut the sugar down to 2 cups. Originally it was supposed to have 4 cups which was WAY TOO SWEET!!! In a large pan combine EVERYTHING EXCEPT EVER CLEAR. Slowly bring to a boil for about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat! Allow the Cinnamon Sticks to remain in the pan until it's to your taste. (Normally at least until it boils) Allow mixture to cool to room temperature. Add Ever Clear and pour the "Hot Apple Pie" mixture into Mason Jars w/lids. Makes 3-4 Quart Jars Note: If you want to cut this recipe in half, you might try adding 4 Cinnamon Sticks instead of 3. Another Note: You can store in the refrigerator for at least 6 months. I've heard of people storing it for a year or more.

I tried this drink years ago while on vacation with friends and I had to have the recipe. I've made it several times and have only one suggestion. When transfering to bottles or jars, use a new knee high nylon over a hand strainer to help cut down on the "pulp". You will have to rinse it often. Oh, also, try warming it up in the microwave. Thats the only way i drink it. :)
