So delicious!! I added vanilla and cinnamon...the inside of the pie was just slightly too liquidy - might try to make slightly less of the sugar mixture next time. Also poured over top the apples and then put a full crust on - didn't do the lattice crust.

Wow - I'm not a big pie fan, usually, but happened to have 20 sliced apples I needed to do something with so stumbled upon this recipe. I have never made a pie with this technique before. I used this crust recipe: Allrecipes' Easy Homemade Pie Crust and it was a perfect pairing. The carmel flavor and crispy carmel pieces that end up on top are my favorite part - so yummy! Made it with granny smith apples and followed both recipes exactely. DELICIOUS! Best pie I've ever had, or made, and I made all my friends try it and they were very impressed with my culinary skills -- thank you for making it so easy!!

I gave this a 4 based on the original recipe. I made it for christmas EXACTLY as posted and it was really good, I especially liked the syrup being poured on top, but it wasn't "the best i'd ever had". However, my husband wanted me to make an apple pie for his friend at work short notice so since this was all I had I tried it with the changes that others posted and it was 5 star worthy with the changes!!!! Definitely the one I will do from now on! The changes I made were adding 1 Tbl of cornstarch to thicken it up, 1 Tbl of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, and 1 Tbl of vanilla (making the water 1 Tbl less). Turned out amazing, I even had a little left over and was able to make my husband a mini pie for his lunch...yum!

AWESOME! Putting the caramel over the crust gave it a nice bubbly appearance and a slightly chewy consistency, I loved it. I did not peel my apples, but I cut them very thinly and the color peeking through the lattice made the pie look absolutely beautiful. I made it for Thanksgiving and everyone raved about it! It is a very simple, classically plain apple pie. This pie has taught me that I like a little cinnamon in my apple pie, so next time I'll add about a teaspoon to the apples.

Je pense que ce serais mieux avec du beurre salé. (translation: I think it would be better with salted butter.)

Second time making this, first time was at Christmas but after a four day power outage we didnt get a chance to try it. Made it this weekend and my family wiped it out in two days. Took the recommendations from others and added a tsp of cinnamon and vanilla. I thought it came out fantastic. Next time I'll try it without the cinnamon and vanilla to do a comparison. Used Ruth's grandmas recipe for the crust, together it made for one fabulous pie. Thanks for the recipe.
