This pie is very sweet yet delicious! My diabetic grandmother was angry she couldn't go back for seconds! I followed the ingredients exactly. I also found a very simple crust recipe on here somewhere that consisted of only butter, oil, water, and flour. It turned out very delicious and was not soggy at all. This is the first pie I have ever made and I was pretty intimidated but so far the few people that have tried it, loved it! The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is that it is a little too sweet. Maybe less sugar next time in the sauce?

I have additionaly questions! I think I am doing something wrong! Hopefully someone can help! How long should the sugar/butter mixture simmer? I tried making the sugar/butter mixture twice but both times is turned out not so liquidy! It was imposible to pour through the lattice since it was so thick. I can't figure out what I've done wrong! Can someone help clarify.

I made this pie to a tee and to be honest it tasted just like a regular apple pie. Nothing really special about it. I know many will disagree. It has a nice flavor but like I stated just a normal apple pie.

This was delicious! I made it with fresh Golden Delicious apples and the taste was superb. I added some cinnamon and nutmeg to suite my own taste as well. But overall, this whole recipe is incredible and I will be making it again!! :-)

I could not believe how good this recipe was. I thought it wouldn't have as much flavor because i followed the directions exactly as listed and did not add any extras such as cinnamon or vanilla. As others have commented, it was just pefect. You would have thought that so much more went into making this pie than it actually did. I guess simplicity is the key.

Awesome recipe! This is the first pie I ever made, with excellent results. Let's just say my college mates were literally fighting over it. I have people requesting that I make more, & several people have asked me for the recipe. I did make a few adjustments: I cut the amount of sugar to about 3/4 of that in the original recipe (a like a bit of tartness) and added a tsp of honey & ground ginger for extra dimension. I also had a plum lying around, so I sliced it, added a bit of water & sugar & microwaved it. I then added the liquid to the syrup & arranged the plum slices on top of the apple filling. This is a bit of a surprise for the lucky recipient.

This recipe is AMAZING! I made it for my dad, an apple pie lover, and he went back for seconds immediately. I added a little cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. No other changes were needed. It is a melt in your mouth pie, hot or cold!

I made this pie as is. It turned out to be the best apple pie ive had. My husband hates cooked fruit but he asked for seconds! So this must be good. The topping for the pie was so awsome. It tastes just like carmel. This was a nice change from your average apple pie with the spices. Tastes like caramel apples. thanks for the recipe

OMG! This pie was absolutely delicious! I loved just melting everything & pouring it on top & the lattice crust came out beautiful with no effort or extra steps. I just found it strange that there was no cinnamon so I added some and a little nutmeg. This will be my only apple pie recipe. Thanks to Grandma Ople!

WOW FOR PEARS TOO! Ok so I had a lot of pears that I needed to use and fast so I decided to take a risk and use this recipe to make a pear pie. All I can say is FABULOUS! I am so excited to use this with apples now. I added 1 tbs of vanilla and 1 tsp of cinnamon and a pillsbury crust. What makes this recipe so different is the sauce it tastes like you are eating caramel pear pie. My family ate it a la mode with vanilla ice cream....YUM!!

Best apple pie yet. Minor changes with my version: I used a variety of apples. I let the sliced apples sit in 1/2 squeezed lemon juice while i prepared the sauce. I added cinnamon, as I cannot imagine apple pie without it! Be sure to vent properly to avoid steam building under pie crust, and having an empty spot. Turn down heat after 20 minutes, so the pie will not overcook too quickly. I used a small apple cookie cutter and vented the top, then dipped the apple crust piece in sugar and added to the top (not over the hole)for decoration. Also brushed crust with a little egg white for a flaky crust. My most favorite pie, this will be my teacher gifts this holiday season!

An awesome recipe. My husband loved it! The only thing I would change is probably the type of apple. We aren't huge fans of granny smith. It was really tart. Overall a wonderful and easy recipe.

This pie was REALLY good, but I could only give it 4 stars because there's no cinnamon in the recipe! How can you make apple pie without cinnamon? Sorry, but I gotta have it. Other than that this pie was mmm-good and easy.
