De-Lish! This is the only apple pie I'll ever make. Added 1 tsp. of cinnamon & vanilla, and a dash of nutmeg. Baked at 350 the entire time. Covered with foil the last 15 minutes to prevent over-browning. May add a little cornstarch next time because it was a tad runny.

Love this recipe - this is the best apple pie that I've ever made - my family asks for it over and over again! No changes needed with this one!

The pie turned out kind of dry for me (i.e., there wasn't enough of the mixture to coat all the apples) so I thought it was just ok. I think it could be really good if I increased the butter/sugar mixture (I would double it but I'm sure that would be too much for many). This is especially true because the lack of butter/sugar made the granny smiths just a bit too tart! I made it for a family event and no one said it was bad but no one said it was "the best apple pie ever" either. Just my experience.

Very good! I am not a huge fan of fruit pies, but this was very good and well received at the event I took it to. I made two pies to use up a ton of apples - one with the full crust and a cutout, one with lattice. I think I actually like the full crust better. I added some cinnamon (1tsp), fresh nutmeg (pinch), and allspice (pinch) to the sugar mixture. I think the recipe would have been just as good without it, but I love those spices. I think this recipe deserves it's high ratings.

Wow, looking at the ingredients I had a hard time believing this apple pie was that good. I finally decided to make this for our church fellowship meal and everyone loved it! I got compliments left and right, and it was eaten up in no time! Amazing recipe:)

God bless, Grandma Ople. I simply adore this pie. I simply followed the instructions and then had a pie. If only life were always this easy. I simply can't say enough about pie or grandma ople or my intrinsic cooking abilities. I may or may not have an eating disorder.

Thank you for sharing this recipe. I will never buy a store bought pie again! I did make a couple of changes based on reviews here - I added cinnamon and nutmeg to the mixture as well as let the apples simmer in the sauce for a little bit. The apples were tender and the granny smith kind really complemented the sweetness of the sauce.

Absolutely wonderful pie! Definitely the best I've ever had! Made it with short, sweet pastry but some of the family found it too sweet, so may make it with puff or unsweetened pastry next time. Will DEFINITELY make again!

Thanks so much for this fantastic Apple Pie recipe! I am the worst pie maker in the world. My 10 year old wanted to make a home made pie for Thanksgiving and I finally gave in. I swore I would never make a pie again...not fun! BUT...I must tell you this recipe changed my mind...EVERYONE loved it! We did follow some of the pie making tips found on this site... I use half Crisco and half butter ( cold ) and cold water. The crust rolled out so nicely. I did add vanilla and cinnamon like others suggested. For sure we will be making this pie again soon!

OH WOW! this is the BEST apple pie i have EVER had! i am not the biggest fan of apple pie but the house i was going to for thanksgiving requested i make it. so i did and i am not hooked. i will never turn to another recipe. the only thing i did different was do a full crust because i didn't want to chance a lattice being that i've never done it before. i just brushed the top with the glaze and it turned out fantastic!!
