Followed directions exactly--won the favorite pie of Thanksgiving (even beating out my chef sister's pumpkin cheesecake). This is a keeper in every way!

I made this exactly as recipe said. The liquid topping was dark and the latice crust was not visable. Granny smith apples are tart. I prefer a sweeter apple. Would not make again.

This was my first apple pie I ever made. It was perfect. Family and friends were raving for days!! Apple pies always scared me... too tart, too soft, too cooked, not cooked... not with this recipe. Perfection!

Awesome! I've made many apple pies and this is by far the best one. The tartness of the granny smith apples with the sweetness of the sugars was a great combo. I only used 5 apples and it created a slight mound after baking in my deep dish pie pan. It could have used more so I will put in 8 next time as suggested in the recipe. I also mixed the sauce with the apples before putting them in the pie crust. I did not have any issues with soggy crust. I added about a teaspoon of cinnamon as well.

Everyone loved this pie at thanksgiving and wanted to know the recipe! I would definately recomend this recipe. The only thing I changed was I put some of the liquid mixture in with the apples as well and I found that only 6 apples fit in the pie that probably depends on the kind of pie your making though. Anyways loved it!

This is an exceptional pie! Like many others comment, I did add cinnamon and a bit of nutmeg to the butter/sugar mix. I also replaced a tsp of water with a tsp of vanilla extract for added flavor. This was a big hit at our friends' Thanksgiving dinner!

Thanksgiving was the second time that I have made this pie for my family. The first time it turned out pretty good, and I can honestly say that it was the best apple pie that I had ever made. This time I let the sauce cook a little longer and kept my lattice more spaced out, and it was even better than the first! I got so many raves from the rest of my family that this will forever be my go-to apple pie recipe. Thanks so much!

The only modification I made was to add 1 tsp. of cinnamon to the filling. My dad & boyfriend, both big fans of apple pie, said it was the best they had ever had. Truly excellent. Thanks, Grandma Ople! :)

Absolutely wonderful. I used the vanilla extract, cinnamon etc additions I had seen other users share. I made it the exact way as the recipe without alterations. It came out perfect (the best looking apple pie I've ever made) and got thumbs up all around. Not a crumb was left after serving this at Thanksgiving. Amazing recipe!!

Very good. I made my own crust and actually forgot to peel the apples, but it still turned out great! I do think I want to work on the filling some and figure out a recipe so the inside isn't as runny, I want my pie to hold up! This was my first apple pie with lattice top!

10 stars. I don't even like apple pie, but I thought I would make this for the holidays for my guests. Well, I forgot to make it on the hectic Thanksgiving Day, and to be honest, I'm glad I did! I made this today for me and my boyfriend, and it is by far the best apple pie, or ANY pie that I have ever had. Now my boyfriend and I can keep this for ourselves!!

My family fought over this pie. I was pleasantly surprised. My daughter sprinkled cinnamon over the apples before we put the syrup over them. We didn't do the lattice crust, but just put the 2nd store bought crust over and brushed it with an egg and cream wash. Also, we cooked it in a 9"cast iron skillet and it didn't overflow and was beautiful.

This was my first pie. It was delicious. I made it a second time with a tsp of cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg, pouring the filling over the apples with a bit left over for a nice glaze on top. I had to stop my boyfriend from eating more than two slices. Also, the pie tips from allrecipes were very helpful. Thanks!

This pie is awesome! Easy enough to make. I had never made a lattice top before. I just cut the pie crust in strips and kind of wove them around on top. It didn't look great going in to the oven but looked great coming out. Careful when you pour the sugar mixture over the top of the pie as it is very hot. Pour it slowly.!

If I could give this recipe 10 stars I would. I made this using Ruth's grandmother's pie crust from this site and it was a hit at Thanksgiving.

The pie was delicious. There are a couple things I would change. The apple that the recipe called for was way too much. I would suggest using 5 apples instead of 8. Instead adding 1/4 cup of water, I added 2 tbsp. to keep the syrup sticky. Instead of pouring in the syrup, I suggest mixing it with the apples first then pour it in the crust. I would also add a tbsp of cinnamon for the flavor.
