I have used this twice now and both times it has turned out lovely. Using the advice of others I added between 2-4 TBsp of flour total between layers of apples and made a simple egg wash to brush the crust with.

Maybe it was the apples I used (Gala-I love them and had them on hand) because my pie came out super watery. I had to drain my pie! I even used four tablespoons of flour! And the apples, although I sliced them thinly, were still a little raw and crisp! The pie had a nice flavor though. With caramel sauce, ice cream and nuts, no one cared that the apples weren't soft. Still, I think I'll try another recipe or try this one again using Granny Smith apples. (uh, I just learned from another reviewer that sweet/soft apples make runny pies. Be sure to use a tart apple!)

perfect and easy I just added 3 tbsp of flour and 1 tsp allspice to the sugar mixture and sifted it together. Gave the filling a nice caramelly texture

This was very good, I added 4 tbsp of flour and it was perfect, otherwise it would have been runny

I actually didn't get to taste this because my family gobbled it all up. I'm assuming it was a five star recipe! It was easy to make, and smelled wonderful. They loved it. Thank you!

My husband and I were looking for a simple recipe to use up some apples in the frig. I found this and we made it together and really enjoyed the finished product. I basted the crust with melted butter and put a little of the cinnamon/sugar mixture on top. Thanks for the old fashioned apple pie recipe!

Excellent! I made this for a dinner party of foreigners...they wanted to taste a real American dessert. They were all very pleased with this recipe and so was I; it was so easy and very delicous!

Very good basic pie reicpe. I added some fresh lemon juice to keep the apples from browning (I also just like the way it contrasts with the sweetness), and added a bit more cinnamon than was called for, as I like a spicy apple pie.

This is a GREAT recipe. It was my first time baking pie, and it turned out wonderfully. I was kinda scared to try it because on my first attempt I used flour instead of sugar (that is exactly how clueless I am when it comes to the kitchen!) but when I saw my family digging into it, I couldn't resist. If I can make it taste wonderful, then anyone can!!! IF I would change anything then it would be to put less sugar than it says in it cause it was extremely sweet, but thats just me.

Very good! It's so easy to make! I bought the Pampered Chef apple peeler corer slicer product and it helps the apple process to be that much easier! This is always a classic recipe that you can't go wrong with!

This is the best apple pie, I made it for Thanksgiving and have gotten many compliments as well as a request for another for Christmas! I added some lemon juice and added flour to thicken and Nutmeg, it was so good!

Easy recipie and my pie was a hit! I coated the apples with a little flour before layering them in the pie, so that it would't be watery. However I also added a little more butter than called for. This recipe even tasted good with lactose free margarine, I highly recommend it!

a lot of people on here gave this recipe 5 stars, but most seemed to have been smart enough to add flour. well i didn't, i just followed the recipe as it said and it turned out really watery in the end. tastes good, but i think it would have been better with the 4 tbs flour. =(

I took the advice of several comments here and added the following: Added 4 Tbsp Flour Added Handful of brown sugar Added 1/4 Tsp nutmeg Added 1 Tbsp Lemon juice to Apples Added 1/4 tsp of vanilla to Apples Basted crust with milk and sprinkle with Sugar Everyone who tried it loved it. I served it with vanilla ice cream. Mmmmmm.

This was excellent!!! I tested this recipe out before making it for christmas and it was sooo good! I took some advice from other reviewers and added some nutmeg and brushed the crust w/ some milk before putting it in the oven. I had never made an apple pie before, but the way this one turned out you would think I was a natural. Thank you so much for this recipe!
