apples - peeled, cored and chopped
This recipe is wonderful. I made this for a recent family reunion. Instead of sprinkling the cinnamon and sugar on the top of the apples in the pan. I just put the apples and the cinn/sugar mixture together in a ziploc bag and coated all the apple pieces. Thanks for sharing such a great recipe.
I followed this recipe exactly and it turned out very dry, so dry in fact we were unable to eat it. The oatmeal mix remained powdery. I would not attempt this one again!
Since there were a few ppl saying this was a dry recipe, when I made it I used a little less flour and a little less oatmeal. YOU DEFINATELY DO NOT need 1/2 cup sugar! I didn't even use 1/2 cup and it was a little too sweet, but when I had the topping on I dotted it with a T of butter and baked as directed. This was juicy, bubbly, and SO DELICIOUS! I will DEFINITELY be using this as my Apple Oatmeal Crisp recipe from now on!
This is hands down my favorite apple crisp recipe! I like that there is one bowl and no cutting in required with the butter. My son is 4 and he loves to help in the kitchen, this is exactly the type of easy, delicious recipe he can help with. You cannot go wrong with this one. I even use the crumb mixture as a streusel-type topping for apple muffins. Thanks so much for sharing!
Awesome recipe, love it, I usually double the recipe, and make 2 at a time (one for eating and one for freezing.) I freeze them before cooking and when I want one later, I cook it from frozen at about 375F for about 45mins-1hr. tastes great!
you know it's a small world when serching for an apple crisp recipe, you discover one from a guy you knew in high school. his family owned an apple orchard...so it's no surprise that this apple crisp recipe is A+++
I followed the recipe exactly, with the exception of using wholewheat flour, and it came out so great! It was really easy and delicious! Others have said in their reviews of this recipe that it was too much sugar, but the apples I used were really tart so it worked well. I think if I were using sweeter apples I'd consider cutting down the amount of white sugar, but for today this was just perfect!
Very tasty. I omitted the white sugar over the apples part, because the apples I was using were sweet enough as is it was. I probably increased the butter, didn't actually measure, jut added untill the oat mixture was a good consistency. I added some real vanilla and a few tsps of almond extract to the butter before I added it to the oats. (I really like almond flavour and apples together) I also added the cinnamon right to the oatmeal mixture, rather then sprinkle it on the apples. Oh, and I added some nutmeg as well. Served it warm, a la mode, and it was greeat! Thanx for this recipe! :)
