Apple Oatmeal Crisp

Original recipe yield: 1 - 8 inch square pan

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 3 cups apples - peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C.) Lightly grease an 8 inch square pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine brown sugar, oats, flour and butter. Mix until crumbly. Place half of crumb mixture in pan. Spread the apples evenly over crumb mixture. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and top with remaining crumb mixture.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown.

This recipe is wonderful. I made this for a recent family reunion. Instead of sprinkling the cinnamon and sugar on the top of the apples in the pan. I just put the apples and the cinn/sugar mixture together in a ziploc bag and coated all the apple pieces. Thanks for sharing such a great recipe.

I followed this recipe exactly and it turned out very dry, so dry in fact we were unable to eat it. The oatmeal mix remained powdery. I would not attempt this one again!

This is hands down my favorite apple crisp recipe! I like that there is one bowl and no cutting in required with the butter. My son is 4 and he loves to help in the kitchen, this is exactly the type of easy, delicious recipe he can help with. You cannot go wrong with this one. I even use the crumb mixture as a streusel-type topping for apple muffins. Thanks so much for sharing!
