I've had bad experience making pies in the past but this pie came out perfect. I wish I would have taken a picture- it looked award winning. It tasted even better. I made this months ago and now after thinking back, I'm drooling!!

Do not make this if you are on a diet! It's the most amazing apple pie you will have ever tasted. I did make a few changes based on what I enjoy in an apple pie. I doubled the flour in the mix with the apples and no problems with it being runny even when warm and because I used pastry that I made at home, I sprinkled 1/2 tblpn of extra flour on the bottom of the pastry shell like my Dad taught me, plus a sprinkle of Chinese Five Spice which has cinnamon, anise, fennel, ginger, licorice root and cloves. I also added a tablespoon of this spice to the apples. I didn't use the optional walnuts or raisins and this pie was the best pie I have ever tasted! I sliced the apples very thinly. I served it with thickened cream - KEEPER!!

I made this pie Thanksgiving of 2006 and just found it in my recipe box! Everyone loved it with a few changes I made based on other reviews. I added 2 T. of flour to the coating and used dried cranberries instead of raisins, Yum!! I also left out the walnuts since I don't like them and nobody was complaining :o)

This pie was excellent! I had an extra pie crust, but just one, and some apples I didn't think I was going to use in another recipe, so I wanted to make an apple pie. I selected this recipe due to the alternative to an upper pie crust. I ended up using a spice mix given to me by a friend (in a gift set from Crate and Barrel) as I didn't think that the spices in the recipe would be sufficient. I didn't add any of the optional ingredients either. This is a classic pie with a twist that turned out wonderfully!

This pie was very tasty! My only complaint is that the next day the topping is quite soggy... which I find kind of gross. But, if you are pretty sure that it will get eaten the first day then it is excellent!

This tastes just like my grandmother's recipe, and we've been searching for it for years!!!! I used granny smith apples and sliced them nice and thin. My husband loved it, and he doesn't usually like apple pie :o)

This was a very good pie, better the next day. I added some oats to the topping and the raisens were a nice change. Cinnamon added to vanilla ice cream makes a great topping! Yum!

This pie makes a beautiful presentation. I followed the recipe exactly and added the optional raisins and nuts. I followed other reviews and doubled the topping. I think next time I will NOT double the topping because this pie was WAY TOO SWEET. It was good, but too sweet for an apple pie. The Cool Whip on top sort of saved it, but I'll know better for next time.........UPDATE: The next day the pie was incredible. I don't know what happened. I still think doubling the topping was a mistake, but boy was it good the next day.

Delicious! But no matter what I did, it was still watery, even after hours of rest time before cutting. No complaints though, the taste was devine!

Wonderful! I added golden raisins and walnuts and it had a great flavor! However, be sure to check that your apples are done cooking. After following the directions mine were still a bit raw.

Oh man...this is amazing! This was my first fruit pie that I've ever made. I like to bake and I've made a lot of other pies but I was still a little nervous. I didn't put in raisins, or the walnuts because I dont like raisins and I didn't have any walnuts. I doubled the topping and it was perfect. I almost like this pie more than my Grandma's pie that I've had for years. I will definitely make this over and over again.
