Definitely was "hearty" as the description says. If you love the crispy crumbly part of the apple crisp you will love this double portion! Was a hit with my family :) thanks for the recipe!

Made for Sunday lunch today---as compared to all apple desserts I've had, "just OK". Mainly, it was too dry. For me it could have also been sweeter. Didn't think that bottom layer added anything special. Not bad--just not that special.

Love this recipe. The crisp is my favorite part of apple crips so I love that the apples are sandwiched between crisp layers in this recipe. I did cut the amount of flour in half and added in extra oats.

Very disappointed. Always make a recipe first as written and then make personal adjustments if we like it well enough to make again -- won't happen with this one -- extremely dry and bland.

I thought this was quite delicious. I enjoyed the extra "crisp". I used less flour then the recipe called for as other suggested.

So delicious! The easiest apple crisp I've ever made and the best. I do agree it needs more apples. I made mine in a 7 x 11 glass baking dish and recalculated the servings to 12 and used five large apples and it could have used at least one more. The double crust is fantastic and was just as crisp the next day. A real keeper.

Tasted great! Will cook longer next time -- apples were still crunchy after suggested time. I was reluctant to use 3 sticks of butter (it just seems like alot of unneeded calories and fat in an otherwise somewhat healthy dessert), but followed the recipe. The crumble part was delicious! As a special treat, this was great.

I agree...less flour and more apples. Don't forget to have vanilla ice cream on hand & serve while the apple crisp is warm....mmmmm!!

Apples have never been my favorite fruit... but the more I bake with them the more I love them. This recipe did not disappoint! I used Cortland apples and followed the recipe pretty closely, except that I threw in a half bag of frozen blueberries. Delicious and I will definitely keep making!!!

This was fabulous. I used about 9 medium sized macintosh apples (they did get very soft after cooking) and like the other reviewers, I only added 1 1/2 cups flour, and it turned out perfect! Took to a potluck and everyone raved!

well 475 people can't be wrong, It was great I did add cranberrys which I'm sure didn't change the fact it is a goooood recipe for apple crisp. Next time I will not use granny smith, something little sweeter and softer maybe and use quick oats but as written is great

I made this recipe with summer camp kids. We made one crisp with Granny Smith apples and one with Macintosh and then voted for our favorite; the result was 50:50! Everyone agreed that it was delicious no matter the kind of apples! :)

This was just what we were craving! The only change I made was I had to almost double the mixture so I had enough for the top and bottom of a 9x13 pan. I also added a teaspoon of vanilla as suggested and I didn't peel the apples. Was delicious no need to try any other apple crisp recipe after this one!

I seemed like too much "crisp" for our tastes, so we cut the recipe in half and just put a nice thick layer over our cinnamon coated Cortland apples. 30 minutes at 375 degrees and it was perfect.

This was the best apple crisp recipe that I have ever made... and I have tried a lot of them! My husband and kids couldn't get enough! It is a great recipe made as the directions are. It was perfect! I will make it again and again! Thanks for the recipe!

Delicious! I halved the entire recipe, and then halved the flour amount again. I sprinkled lemon juice, cinnamon, and sugar on my apples slices while I was preparing the rest of the mixture. It came out terrific! My husband raved about it for days.

This apple crisp recipe is good if you like the "crisp" part. I would add more apples and less crisp.

The thing I love about this crisp recipe is that the best part of the crisp is the topping (for me at least!) and this is the first one I've seen that gives me a double layer of it! I'd sadly never thought to do that myself. I followed other reviewers advice and only used 1.5c of flour, turned out perfect!
