I added a little vanilla, and some extra cinammon sugar because i can't get enough of that stuff. I also cut the reg sugar in half and relaced half of it with brown sugar and i think it turned out better. It tasted amazing with vanilla ice cream and still warm...i would have given it 5 stars but when i put the leftovers in the fridge and reheated it it was no longer crispy on top...but pretty mushy but otherwise i loved it! Thank You!

I really liked this recipe, which was extremely easy to make. The only recommendation I would make is to add about 1/8 teaspoon of salt to the crisp to give it a little more dimension.

This was delicious and easy! My topping was too moist to crumble so I had to add more flour to get the right consistancy. Otherwise, it was perfect.

This is delicious! I only give it 4 stars because my husband says he likes the topping to be a bit crisper (I did bake it for 50 mins). I used McIntosh apples, as they are the only apples I will buy. I also added cinnamon to the topping. That's the only thing I changed outside of the bake time. I served it with a little bit of evaporated milk poured on top. We're moving in a few days, and this was a perfect way to use up the rest of our apples. :)

I *have* to put this note in here. The only things I measured were the water and the butter. I also didn't cream anything. The butter I melted in a measuring cup for 30 seconds in the microwave. I was in a hurry and threw everything in the pyrex dish without reading properly, didn't even mix it completely, and it turned out just perfect. No clumps of flour or anything ugly. How's that for saving on the dishes?

Bumpy, crispy, and gooey...all at the same time! Soooo much easier than apple pie but still has that delicious 'mouth feel'. I would agree with some reviewers that the type of apple used dictates how much sugar and water you will need. I followed the recipe exactly using Golden Delicious apples and I would deem it very delicious but,a little sweet and a little juicy. So, next time, if using a sweet, juicy apple, I will make the changes accordingly. I love the fact that it requires no oats.

FANTASTIC recipe! I used Golden Delicious apples because they were what I had in my fridge, and did a few things differently. I mixed the 1 tsp cinammon with 2 tbsp sugar. I tossed the apples in this mixture before putting them into the 8x8, then drizzled with about 1/4 cup water. If I made this again I would probably leave out the water altogether, as it was fairly moist (but Golden Delicious tend to give off more juice than Granny Smith). I used 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 white, and whisked it together with the flour. I then added the butter (cold and cubed) and cut it into the mixture with a pastry cutter until it formed typical pea-sized bits, that way the topping was more "crumbly." I baked at 375 for about 50 minutes before the topping was as crispy as I liked. This was so buttery, crispy and fast to put together. Would be delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! It is a tastier, easier version of apple pie! Can't wait to make it again!

I have started making this recipe with a fever ever since I found it and perfected my version of it. Quite literally almost every day I'm making another batch, because my boyfriend, myself, and all my family and friends are always requesting it. I varied a little from the recipe. How I make it is, I use an 8x8 pan and I normally use about 3-5 apples, depending on how large they are. Granny smith taste the best with this, but i normally use regular red del. I peel and core them, and I pour 1/3 C. water over them in the pan. after that, I sprinkle cinnimon over them until they are coated, and i add a light sprinkling of nutmeg, just enough for taste. then I mix the topping together. I use- 1/2 C. butter, 1/2 C. white sugar, 1/2 C. brown sugar, and mix that. Then I add cinnimon liberally to that, until it's covered, and about 3 Tb. of vanilla. I mix that in. Then I add 3/4 C. of flour. I spread the topping over the apples, usually by hand to make sure it's even, and then I sprinkle brown sugar liberally over the top for a nice crunchy crust. I bake it at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. it always comes out perfectly.

Very good! I was expecting the topping to be more crumbly, but it was still delicious. I used 1/3 cup of granulated splenda rather than the sugar. It was plenty sweet and did not have a "fake sugar" after taste. I did sprinkle a little bit of brown sugar on the top... yum!

I've used this recipe a few times. I add 1 tspn of vanilla to the topping and 1 tspn-1 tblspn of OJ to the apples. It's very tasty when you use half brown sugar and half white. One time I even forgot to add half of the sugar (I accidentally kept adding flour to get the right consistency) and it actually came out great!

Excellent and easy to follow and prepare recipe! I made it for the first time and it was great! I am a newlywed/beginner cook and really enjoyed this, the prep time was very minimal and the taste, outstanding! (I added a bit of vanilla flavoring as well).

This is sooo much better than the kind with oats and I would definately prefer this to apple pie. It is like amazing apple pie but fresher tasting and incredibly easy to make. I too used half brown, half white sugar.

This was delicious! My roommate and I made it last night. She used whole-wheat flour, and it turned out fine. We did not change the sugar, but in the future, I think I'll do 1/2 brown and 1/2 white, or even a bit more brown sugar. She put some granola on top, which I could take or leave it. Very great recipe!

Loved this dish! It was easy and delicious. I followed the directions exactly, with exception to adding a couple of squirts of lemon juice to the water. Granny Smith apples work very well, but a mix of those and McIntosh apples get a tasty result also. Perfect when needing a quick dessert using items already in your kitchen or for a way to finish up the apples in the fruit bowl before they go bad. Everyone loved this dessert!
