These were very good! Everyone loved them. They were moist and chewy, but not runny or gooey like other people complained of. i honestly don't see how you could have had a problem if you followed the recipe. I took others suggestions and used half brown sugar, half white sugar. I doubled the recipe, using 2 cups of apple chunks (instead of smaller slices) and 1/4 cup of sliced almonds (didn't have any walnuts or pecans on hand). they turned out delicious!

DELICIOUS!!!! everyone (especially me!) loved them! they are very moist - exactly what I was looking for. I was concerned that the Granny Smith apple would be too tart, but it was perfect. I also added 1/2 cup of oats. This would be great served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some type of sauce - like a pecan carmel sauce or something. although just by itself is fanastic!!! definiely a keeper. thank you!

Works well with Fuji apples (since they are the most widespread variety here in the Philippines- and cheap too) smelled terrific, I'll be serving this for Christmas!

My dad liked them, my mom, not at all, everyone else, somewhat. They said that it was too moist, which could be my fault, cuz I added extra apples. They're not bad, but I don't think I'll make them again.

Really moist and delicious! I left out the nuts since we just don't really care for those and I substituted half the butter for a BIG spoonfull of peanut butter and it was delicious!

Yummy, but these are more like a cake than a cookie. I didn't love them, but my Mom did! I think they needed something. Perhaps serving with ice-cream or icing would help.

Very easy to make. Added 2 cups of apples instead of the nuts and it turned out very moist. Kind of crumbly - you have to eat with a fork but still delicious.

Excellent! This is a great apple recipe. The only thing I changed was the apples. I used macintosh and instead of finely chopping then I cut them into nice sized chunks. It was awesome. My husband loved it. I will be making this one a lot! By the taste you would never know how easy they are to make!

I made this recipe for a festival at my college and it was loved by all! Everyone was raving for it, and would come to my stand saying "I am supposed to try the apple bars". It was great! Totally a hit. I followed the recipe almost exactly (I made it vegan) and it took a little longer to bake then the 40 minutes called for.

These were a HIT! I used some honeycrisp apples that I picked up at the orchard and instead of the ground cinnamon, I threw in some Hershey's cinnamon chips. Great results. Thanks much!

Ok... I usually laugh at people that substitute everything in a recipe... but I did a lot of substitutions... I used whole wheat flour, canola oil instead of butter, half of the walnuts for dried cranberries, I used egg beaters and cooking splenda... probably at least half the calories. They were dry when I made them last night... but this morning they are moist and tasty.

Great recipe! These aren't like other fruit bars (like lemon). They don't have a crust like others. They are more like an apple muffin cut into bar shape. But very easy to customize to your own tastes. I used 3 VERY large granny smith apples, chopped. (I like lots of fruit in my pies and bars!!!) I added a little more flour to supplement for the extra apples. I kept the 8x8 inch pan and sprinkled brown sugar on top, baked just over an hour. Kept them in the fridge, I love them cold. Next time I want to make caramel sauce to go on top.
