This bread is easy to make, the sugar doesn't add that much sweetness to the bread. Overall everything just balance out. Great bread recipe, will turn them into dinner rolls next time.

I've been making bread with my mom since I was little and this bread is replacing hers...(shhhhh, don't tell her). This recipe gave me two large dense loaves with soft crusts that sliced like a dream and are great with meat and cheese. I have doubled the recipe with no trouble, rolled cinnamon/sugar into it for cinnamon bread, made cinnamon rolls and sticky buns with it and made picture perfect dinner rolls. Wow, this recipe is very versatile and simple. I've decreased the sugar to 1/3 cup for one batch and didn't really care for it- I guess I like my sugar. I also used all purpose flour with no problem. You can't go wrong with this recipe. If you are having trouble, do a little research into breadmaking in general, so you don't mess up the steps - like running the water over your wrist to make sure it's not too hot (it should be warm, but not burning hot). Other than that, this recipe is pretty foolproof and will give you bread to rave over.

Lovely bread with simple ingredients. I made mine in both loaves and braids, both worked well. Used egg wash on top prior to baking.

I don't buy light bread at the store anymore. At first I thought this recipe was to simple to be really good, boy was I wrong. Cut off a slice as soon as it comes out of the oven, slap on some butter and enjoy.

This recipe is very good. As with others I cut the sugar down to 2Tbsp, which was lots. I used some whole wheat flour and added some multi grain.

9/16/09 This bread is sooo delicious! I made it exact to the recipe, although I did brush some egg wash over the top (1 egg mixed with 2T water) prior to baking which made a nice shiny crust. It was sweeter than white bread, but still very good. Next time I might experiment with the sugar just for fun, and possibly substitute some wheat flour or even try all-purpose flour. For the 2nd rise I let it rise 45 minutes. I don't know why some reviewers say this bread is dense because I did not think so at all. Maybe they usually eat Wonder bread or something. This is the first bread in years that I've made start to finish totally by hand - I usually use my bread machine, if not for the whole recipe then at least through the first rise. This recipe is SO easy. Thank you! It's definitely going into my collection for our enjoyment for many years to come! - - - - - 11/11/09 I tried this again today with only 1/3 cup sugar and it was a bit less sweet, but just as yummy! I love it both ways. It's delicious made as a sandwich with ham and honey mustard. Next time I'm going to try making it into cinnamon bread. :)

An excellent recipe, I used the half cup of sugar since most folks did use less. It made excellent toast as well. I am a very experienced bread baker (home) and this one is a keeper. I was really impressed with the number of people that actually are interested in making bread. From the reviews, I gather there are a lot.

This was a great bread but way to sweet. Great for breakfast but not for any type of meat sandwich. Next time I will cut down on the amount of sugar.

Thank you! Have been looking for this kind of recipe. Worked well folded out into dinner rolls, I oiled the tops, covered with cloth, let set overnight, baked in early morning. My loaves were great, had to give some away!!!

Very good recipe, my hubby loves it. i wish it was a tad less dense but i know why it is, i skip the last session of rising because i bake my bread on a pizza stone and not in a pan and it is less time that it is in the oven. come cold weather i might be less lazy.

I give it 4 because I would have liked some extra instructions that would be helpful to the first time bread baker, me! Other than that I think it was great! I couldn't wait to try it so I sliced off an end and put butter on it! VERY GOOD! I am eager to try again, maybe try the cinnamon bread. This is a keeper!

This was my first time making bread-ever. I was questioning myself throughout the entire process; sure I had messed up in one of the steps. I was SO wrong...this bread came it perfectly delicious! Nice crust on the outside, and soft and delicious on the inside. I cannot wait to make it again:) Thank you for posting a recipe that helped me to accomplish one of my goals; the skill of making my own bread.
