Very good recipe. I substituted mild pork sausage for the beef and used leftover mashed potatoes. Excellent comfort food, I will make this one again. Could be improved by a bit more seasoning and maybe a can of green beans. Thank you.

My family gobbled this recipe up! Very highly recommended and so easy! I left out the onion and celery, and substituted garlic & onion powder instead. Also left out the thyme, and it tasted great.

My husband and I thought this recipe was great! My kids did not but then again they don't like anything! I made this using mushroom soup instead since we are not crazy about vegetable soup.

I am sorry, this was not bad by any means but I did think it was kind of bland. Thanks for sharing.

THIS WAS A GREAT RECIPE TO FIX ON A HURRICANE DAY. WE HAVE 5 FOSTER CHILDREN AND THEY ALL LOVED IT. PRETTY GOOD SINCE THE OLDEST ONE IS 6. I DID SPICE UP THE POTATOES A BIT WITH SOUR CREAM AND GARLIC AND ADDED A CAN OF MUSHROOM SOUP AND USED MIXED VEGETABLES INSTEAD OF THE SOUP MOSTLY BECAUSE THAT WAS WHAT I HAD BUT A 5 STAR HIT AT OUR HOME

I do not like veg soup, but I made this to see if I could like it with the additional items. I did not like this dish too well, but only because of the soup. I did give it 5 stars because I have 3 very picky children who do not like vegtables. All three of my children loved this dish and asked for seconds, so because of that this recipes wins me over. Any recipe that has veg and gets my kids to eat it will be remade in my house. Thank you.

I changed this up a bit.....onion flakes instead of onion, and celery salt instead of celery. And I added a bit more Thyme. (I'm a dumper, not a measurer, so I don't know exactly how much Thyme I added.) This has become a family favorite. I make it at least once a month. We love it!

This is a simple yet hearty and tasty meal. Made a few changes as suggested by others. I seasoned up the ground beef with Tony Chachere's and used golden cream of mushroom instead of the vegetable soup. I also added in a can of corn and sprinkled some cheese on top of the meat mixture before putting the potatoes on (we made 8 servings of instant mashed potatoes). My husband and I really enjoyed this and even our kids, who usually only eat a tablespoon of anything, ate this well.

An authentic Shepherd's Pie is made with ground lamb not beef. (hence the 'shepherd') Cottage Pie is made with ground beef.

I have been making this recipe for years and everyone loves it. I use vegetarian vegetable soup. I never leave the thyme out because that is what makes it Shepherd's pie. In the true Irish version, thyme is a main ingredient.

This is a very forgiving recipe - you can substitute many different things, based on what you have on hand. I used ground turkey meat, and cream of chicken soup. I also threw in all my leftover veggies. It was a hit.

I am not a big fan of this kind of meal, but my family is and they really liked it! Although I noticed many used different kinds of soups, I went ahead and used the veggie soup because I had it in the house. I think it might be fun to experiment with different kinds of soups and even the corn in the future..maybe next time cream of mushroom or something. I also omitted the thyme, only because we are not a big fan of the flavor of thyme. Thanx for the recipe, and I will be keeping this handy in "my recipe box" and will be making it again!

This was a big hit with us. I modified a little for our tastes by using Old Bay Seasoning, and garlic powder with chopped onion and green peppers while browning the meat. I drained a can of pinto beans and spicy veg all, added the thyme and meat mixture. Topped with instant potatoes for a time saver and nacho blend cheese. My husband raved and insisted I write down the changes for the next time. Thanks, Lisa, for a wonderful one dish meal.
