Didn't have honey so I used brown sugar. I prepare this dish on a regular basis and family loves it.

I don't like to leave negative reviews just because everyone likes different things and has different taste buds. But this recipe didn't work for me or my husband. We didn't like it. I followed it to a 'T' and double the sauce as other members mentioned, but it had a weird flavor. I will not do this again..=(

My husband and I really enoyed this. The sauce was sweet but still had a bit of a kick to it thanks to the chilli flakes. I served this over rice with steamed green beans and carrots, and it was a very easy and tasty meal.

I made this not knowing what to expect, my husband and I both agree it was WAY better than most chinese places around here. Instead of bell pepper I used carrot. The sauce by itself tastes too much like teriyaki, so I added a bit more honey, about a tbsp of brown sugar and a spoon full of regular sugar ( I ran out of brown ) It wasn't overly sweet this way either, still way less than what you get at restaurants. I used sesame oil/olive oil spray to fry the chicken and vegetables and ginger powder instead of five spice, couldnt find it. Amazing, my only regret was making enough for just two servings!

GREAT recipe!! I did change it up a little because I did not have some ingridients. I marinated the chicken in Oriental Marinade that I found at my local Tesco. Then I only added abt half a teaspoon of 5spice because this spice is overpowering. The flour had difficulties ahering to the chicken. Not exactly sure how to fix this problem. I got the chicken crispy by leaving it in the wok for about 10mins mixing it occasionally. I added various veggies such as carrots and red peppers. I didn't have any teryaki sauce so i added extra soysauce and just a tablespoon of hoison sauce. Don't forget the honey!! I also sprinkled sesame seeds in the end. Served it over white long rice.

This was delicious! The Chinese 5 spice powder is expensive ($7) so I opted to use spices I already have (a pinch of cinnamon, ginger, and garlic powder) instead. FYI... 1/2 cup of sesame seeds ends up being an entire standard-sized spice bottle. I think less could definitely be used and it wouldn't detract from the recipe. Also, the chopped onion and pepper, while nice, are optional- especially if you are looking to make the meal more quickly. I will definitely make this again and share the recipe with my friends!

This was a simple dish to make. I think it needs a little more of something as it tasted a bit bland. What that something is I'm still trying to figure out. I would also make the chicken crispier by adding a thicker coat of flour.

It was good but not great. I followed the recipe to the "T". It didnt have the crispyness that I love from the restaraunt, I would also definetly suggest like others already have, to double or even triple the sauce and definetly add more crushed red pepper to get more flavor.

We didn't care for this and threw away the leftovers. The five spice powder gave this an odd flavor and was an expensive investment.

This sesame chicken recipe was very good. It just needs a little more sauce to it. It was a hit in my house..

I made this for dinner with friends and everyone enjoyed it. The 5-spice gave it a unique flavor. I added a lot of broccoli and extra sauce.

I did what most people suggested here and tripled the sauce (also mixed the sauces together before adding to chicken). I cooked the chicken a little longer, just to get some extra crispiness. An absolutely delicious dish!!

Outstanding recipe! My only minor tweaks would be to add some red pepper flakes in the sauce and make more of it. Trippling it seems about right. Also, I add somewhat fewer sesame seeds in the sauce.

I've been looking for a good recipe for Sesame chicken and this was quite good... although I had to make about 5x the sauce. Also, I didn't need nearly the full cup of flour--I ended up throwing a bunch of it out. But all in all, a really good recipe.
