Amazing recipe! The bread is even better than the one I had in Ireland. I subsitute 1 or 2 cups with whole wheat flour, to give it its typical brown colour. It keeps fragrant for days, everybody loves it!

This was really yummy although mine was a tad doughy in the middle (I should've flattened it a bit more I think..) and I threw in some dried cherries, blueberries and cranberries for an extra kick in each bite. My kids loved it too. =) Thanks for the recipe!

Tasty! Great texture and flavor... some folks mentioned adding raisins, but we thought it was really great as is. This bread makes a great go-with for the recipe for Irish Bacon and Cabbage Soup!

I used half whole wheat and half all-purpose flour. It was good, but not great. A bit dry and crumbly and a little too sweet for our tastes.

Excellent soda bread! Totally different than what you get in stores. Not crumbly and dry at all. Moist, and flavorful. We ate half the loaf on St. Patrick's Day and the other half toasted with butter the next day. Will definitely make again.

I made this Irish Soda Bread to accompany my St. Patrick's Day dinner this year. This was also the first time I have made my own and let me tell you, I will NEVER buy another one at the grocery store again! This truly was amazingly easy! I followed everything as stated EXCEPT I did add about 1 cup of raisins (personal preference) and I did need more flour when kneading because dough was a tad to sticky to work with, but again, I have never done this before so I chalk that up to my inexperience in bread making. It was so sweet and delicious! An egg wash on the top midway through baking gave it a nice glaze on top and this bread was gone by the next day! (4 of us eating) This one is definitely a keeper!

I have no concept of what Irish Soda Bread taste likes but I do know that this was very good. It does resemble a biscuit in a way. I added a handful of raisins to mine. I would agree that you don't need 1/4 cup of butter and buttermilk. Instead 2 tbs. should be fine. That reminds me... I didn't have Margarine so I used butter instead. Thank you for sharing this great recipe MP!

Delicious and very easy to make. Everyone liked it and the leftovers the next day with cheddar cheese melted on top were divine. I will definitely make this again - maybe adding some herbs on occasion - sage or rosemary would be good. Thanks for the great recipe!
